Carolina Chocolate Drops 11/6/2009 Carolina Chocolate Drops Friday, November 6, 2009 @ 8:00 PM, Campbell Hall “Carolina Chocolate Drops…dazzling in its velocity and virtuosity…ensures that you don’t miss the blues that drove those pioneers to make such defiantly ecstatic music.” -Rolling Stone The Carolina Chocolate Drops is a group of young African-American string band musicians that are leading the revival of the rich tradition of fiddle and banjo music in Carolina’s Piedmont. Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson play with a mastery of authentic instrumentation (jug, banjo, fiddle and hands) and an energetic, yet easy-going, amiable stage presence. Under the tutelage of Joe Thompson – said to be the oldest living African-American traditional string band player – their time-honored take on original songs is garnering worldwide praise for reinvigorating and keeping an entire genre of American music alive. General public $37.00 UCSB Students $19.00 Includes facility fee For tickets or more information: www.artsandlectures.ucsb.edu/ 805.893.3535 |
