LURE FISH HOUSE OPENS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 29TH

On August 15, 2013 I published a rumor that Lure Fish House was coming to upper State Street. After writing 18 follow-up stories since then, I am very happy to report that Lure Fish House opens Tuesday, December 29th in La Cumbre Plaza, in the space formerly occupied by Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Lure offers lunch and dinner though the first 5 days it will be dinner-only as staff comes up to speed. Santa Barbara is Lure Fish House’s 4th location following openings in Ventura, Camarillo and Westlake.

Lure Fish House was created with the goal of providing a top tier seafood experience featuring fresh and sustainable seafood from trusted sources. The restaurant strives to provide locally caught seafood, organically grown local produce, and wines from local vineyards whenever possible. Lure also features a full bar with specialty cocktails, and an oyster bar serving a variety of fresh items that can vary daily. Lure specializes in Mesquite charbroiled seafood while also providing prepared selections by their chef. Menus are printed daily to reflect availability and guarantee freshness.

The menu typically includes Wild Rock Fish, Wild Yellowtail, Wild Pacific White Sea Bass, Wild Ono/Wahoo, Wild Mahi-Mahi, Loch Etive Steelhead, Icelandic Arctic Char, Scottish Salmon, Wild Local Halibut, Wild Pacific Swordfish, Jumbo Wild Gulf Shrimp. The menu also includes a variety of oysters (Kumai, Chef Creek, Lure Charbroiled, Hama Hama, Blue Point, Fanny Bay, and Crystal Point), pastas (Linguini & Clam Sauce, Spicy Seafood, Spicy Tequila Lime Shrimp, and Lobster Ravioli) along with soups, bread bowls, salads, crab cakes, calamari and more. The lunch-only menu includes tacos, sandwiches, and fish & chips. A kids menu is available.

Hours are 11:30 a.m. to close, usually around 10:30 p.m. Thanks to reader Travis for the tip.

  2. Lily says:

The interior is beautiful. They really moved fast this last couple of weeks.

  3. Christine says:

I’ve been looking forward to this opening for awhile, it’s within walking distance from my home for a great date + light exercise evening with my hubby.

Daily printed menus is different from their other locations, but the rest of the fresh fish offering sounds exactly like what they offer at those other locations. I wonder, why bother with a daily menu? Their offering is extensive and if they always have the same fish availability, a daily offering isn’t needed. I’m not for or against it, I’m just curious why they would print menus everyday when the other locations don’t, and don’t need to.

  4. Diane Lemons says:

Will you be taking reservations? Also, we miss the fish on the sign. Welcome to Santa Barbara. We have been waiting for sand dabs. Cheers!!

  14. Rudeboy says:

How soon will it close after SB residents start complaining about prices just like they did when Ruth’s Chris occupied that spot. I loved Ruth’s.

  15. Charlotte says:

Hoping SB will have all day Sunday Happy Hour as Ventura. I was told by a waiter in Ventura that one of the owners of Lure is an interior designer…shows.

  16. SL says:

Do they take reservations? Doesn’t appear so from the website

  17. Steve says:

We were fortunate to grab 2 seats at the oyster bar last night for their first night of service to the public. The place was alive with friendly ambassadors greeting everyone as they entered. The crew behind the bar was energetic and so very knowledgeable and helpful, trying to keep up with the oyster orders. Lots of shucking going on! We ordered a bottle of Justin Cabernet, and perused the daily menu. Ordered the charbroiled oysters as an appetizer, followed by the salmon and halibut entrees. The oysters were amazing and a must try when you go. The entrees were prepared to perfection with delicious sides of chop salad, potato’s and fresh coleslaw. Finished up with the blueberry cobbler al a mode. Overall we were blown away by the quality of food, the high level of customer service for their first night. So lucky to have another great restaurant in the neighborhood! We will be coming back to Lure often!

  18. Steve says:

We’re not wine snobs, so drink what tastes good. Maybe when I become a sommelier I’ll figure out that “pairing” bs! Cheers!!

  19. Charlotte says:

Crab cakes and key lime pie are serious here!
