Great customer service, 7/17/2014
Reviewer: Linda from Carpinteria, Ca
The staff at the Carp Albertson's has always been helpful to me, the store clean and well stocked. If you don't see a product on the shelves, you can request that they bring it in and they do. I've requested two products, one directly from the produce manager and another written and the next time I visited, they were there. Butchers will cut and season the meats and the produce and baked goods are fresh. Ahmed is very responsive to requests and worked hard to bring this improved store to Carp.

Wilted, rotten food and bad service, 2/8/2014
Reviewer: Dara from Carpinteria, CA
I had high hopes for this Albertsons, given the money and press put into this supposedly cutting edge location. What I've found regularly since they've opened is food past it's sell by date (both in terms of the fresh foods and the frozen or refrigerated products) and a very poor selection of deli foods. I gave up on the organic section since it seems to be replaced ever two weeks rather than weekly and it results in literally rotting veggies and fruit that you pick up and are literally melted and oozing. The deli food is kind of gross. It's unappetizing to look at and the cases are messy and seem dirty. Whomever is managing this location is not paying enough attention. When I found cheese that was nearly 3 months out of date, I brought it to the checkout to inform them that they needed to pull the outdated products and I was treated as if I was an imposition, rather than giving them important information about a situation that could make their customers sick. For the record, I was very friendly and smiled when I presented them with the outdated product, so there was no attitude on my part, just theirs. Ultimately, this is really a disgrace to have a store of this size operating on such a sub-par level. Food shouldn't be rotten and if it is, it should be dealt with professionally and courteously when a paying customer brings it to the attention of the staff.

Disappointing at best, 11/19/2013

The new Albertson's is disappointing at best! Twice I have bought fresh pasta and gotten home to find it moldy. Yes I did check the date before purchase it seems it may be a stored improperly. The most disappointing part is the salad bar. Repeatedly the lettuce is wilted and crotons stale. It seems like they leave items from the previous day out while still frequently out of other items. I think tomatoes would be staple at a salad bar. All that remodeling for a pitiful outcome!

Meh., 8/20/2013

First, let me say that Tom doesn't realize that plastic and paper bags have been outlawed from Carpinteria stores, so you need to bring your own bag no matter what. It has nothing to do with Albertson's or unions and everything to do with local ordinances, so I think it's unfair (though, clearly uninformed) to blame employees for not doing enough bagging. And for the record, I've never been to any grocery store in Carp where employees don't bag your groceries for you since this law. You just need your own bag is all. Fair enough given the new ordinance. All that said, I had high hopes for this Albertson's when it re-opened. But the prepared food is rubbery, the canned and packaged foods are often out of date and the produce is frequently old or worse, moldy. The staff is hit or miss friendly/helpful and it seems like the kind of store that is beautiful to look at without much to offer in terms of quality food. The sushi outpost is disappointing; no fresh real fish in the sushi or sashimi and a lot of corn syrup in the ingredient list. The deli food is okay, but nothing exciting and the hot dogs, beef and hot bar is really kind of gross. I've seen the same food in the case two days in a row, untouched. And it shows. We really deserve something better in Carp.

Be prepared to bag you own groceries
Reviewer: Tom Mc from Newbury Park, CA
My wife visited the store today to buy a few items for her father's 93rd birthday. We're accustom to unloading the items from our cart, so the checker can simply scan them. Now!! You’re expected to bag your own groceries, and pay for the bags. WTH! Why are these clerks being paid union wages for doing next to nothing?? Shopping VON'S, is in our future.

friendly

sucks
Reviewer: Jon from Santa Barbara, CA
he customer service here is a joke. I have on two occasions left my shopping cart at the checkout area without paying because employees refused to serve me while it was not busy. They just let you stand at the counter like you are not even there. I used to work for a grocery chain and this kind of behavoir would've got me fired in an instant. Obviously the management is no good.

Amed... I have to agree with the review below me.
Reviewer: Concerned from Santa Barbara, CA
Amed... seriously, the cashiers at your store are laughable. There is absolutely ZERO "customer service". They barely make eye-contact and it is even more frustrating when they are holding personal conversations with the "bagger" and totally ignoring you. "Take a step-back" and watch what's going on from a customers point of view. You were good when you worked at Von's, but this store is failing. Even if you do get to "expand"...you won't get any additional business unless you do a serious upgrade on the people who work there. In terms of "Guest Service"...VON'S destroys you.

bad attitude

Good Deli Food, Nice People, Nice Albertsons
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
Though not as good as some of their competition this was a pretty good Albertsons, sandwich was good and the people were fairly friendly. Hopefully Albertsons will start updating like Vons has to make it even nicer.
