Good Food
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
The food here is good but its Rudys and you know that. Having been to all the Rudy's now they are all pretty consistently good, it hard to find better Non fine dining mex food unless you are after the stranger parts of the cow that other places serve(which I'm not). Order takers nice, good open dining area. Rudy's is a nice place to go between a lower budget taqueira style place and a fine dining place.

I think the guy from Berkley nailed it!

I never get how this place is even in business let alone getting good reviews all over the place. Have people never tasted real Mexican food? Or real food for that matter? I've (sadly) eaten here enough times to know that the food here is just mediocre at best, poor at worst. The burritos taste warmed over even when made "fresh" and contain hardly any meat, mostly beans and sickly, waxy textured cheese. The service is ok. On good days, they are super friendly and get the order right. On bad days, they are still super friendly, but can't get your order right to save their life.

We thought the food was very good indeed

My wife and I were traveling through town and found Rudy's from the tourist map. We were a little surprised at the minimalist decor, but when we got our food, we were very pleasantly surprised -- in fact, we think it ranks with some of the best Mexican food in our experience. Definitely worth a try in our opinion! :-))

Let down in Carpinteria.

We were traveling through Santa Barbara and stayed in a hotel in Carpinteria. We needed a place to eat so we went to Rudy's ( recomended to us by the front desk of the hotel.) First the cashier didn't understand what we were saying and eventually gave us the wrong food. I said that they gave the wrong things, and they told us to keep that food but they would give it for half the price, a plus point on the cost :). The food was all too greasy, the cheese tasted a little like plastic and even the beans were too greasy. Some of the beans were still not cooked thoroughly (there were even a few hard beans on the plate). It was really a low point in our vacation to Carpinteria.

Good Stop For a Quick Fix
Reviewer: Ella from Carpinteria
I just moved here from LA and and I lived in San Diego for 10 yrs. San Diego has GREAT authentic Mexican food. I was thrilled to see so many places in Carpinteria to have Mexican food as LA sucks for it. I stopped at Rudy's and was thrilled. It is a good place to stop. So far my favorite in the area for a quick order. The cashiers need to be friendlier. I have been in there at least 10 times now and the cashiers half the time didn't smile and acted like "whatever". One even had her cell phone out texting right in front of me while I waited for her to finish! The food comes out fast once you get past the cashier. All in all it is good.

Best Mexican style food in Carp
Reviewer: Jeff from Carpinteria
Outstanding food always fresh. Handmade homemade corn tortillas. Large portions. Some unique items and a varied menu. Daily specials like shrimp burrito and poblanos chili tacos are a favorite. Not traditional stlye, but more like "fresh-mex" style of food. Wish they had Cabo’s style grilled fish though. Clean, but absolutely no ambiance. Pretty much a self service kind of place.
