Yum!
Reviewer: Laura B. from Santa Barbara, CA
This is a fairly new restaurant in town. They have good food, friendly service and a relaxed atmoshphere. Good prices, tasty food and nice people make for a pleasant experience. They keep adding to the menu and it just keeps getting better and better! It is a great place to stop for lunch while you are out and about for the day! Yum!

LIKE! But can get better
Reviewer: Ang from Santa Barbara, CA
Like the home cooked taste of the taquitos. But..if I'm going to a restaurant.. I want to feel like it..was a little dissapointed about the paper plates..kinda took away the whole eat out feel for me (use plastic at least?) but it didnt stop me from returning. A little bummed of the inconsistancy of the dipped taquitos.. Loved it the first time and could hardly stand the spiceyness the second time.. but it DID add flavor which is needed but the dry are ARE great with the green salsa and a squeeze of lime! Not all that happy that every time I have retured the price continues to go up but if they are worth it I will pay the price. Also agree with the other review of guac. and sour cream portions are tiny for the added cost. If they can improve on the speed that would help as well. I have to say I enjoy the taquitos and will return to try the enchiladas.. but if things dont get a bit better dont know how much I will be returning.. as of now.. it's not bad.. but ok! Needs some work and it can really be great!

Chile Rellenos at Tepeyac
Reviewer: Larry from Santa Barbara, CA
Tepeyac has expanded their menu beyond Taquitos. Tonight we had a superb dinner of Chicken Enchiladas and Chili Rellenos plus the usual sides of rice and beans. Both entrees were outstanding. We particularly enjoyed the Chili Rellenos. Chili Rellenos are common menu items at most Mexican restaurants but the quality can vary greatly. These were exceptionally good.

Great Find!!!!

If you like authentic Mexican food and a friendly, caring atmosphere with good service Tepeyac Taquitos is the place for you. They have a menu that is expanding and each new dish is delicious. I'm hooked and from the buzz around town so are a lot of others.

Great food, and friendly service
Reviewer: Jeff from Santa Barbara, CA
I eat at Tepayac often. I think the food is very good, and very well prepared. I also think the service is not only good, but they really seem to care that I am at the restaurant. I will continue going regularly!

Horrible service and dry food
Reviewer: Rafael from Santa Barbara, CA
The chicken taquitos were extremely dry and the service kind of sucked. I ordered my tacos with no toppings and they put them anyway. In addition that the cashier was very rude. It's not the first time I visit this place but yes the first time this happens to me. They should make the chicken a little bit more juicy, and about the attitude I don't know what to say she should change it.

Overpriced and Bland
Reviewer: Melissa from Santa Barbara, CA
I was looking forward to trying this place, I love taquitos. Well, we went last night and it was so dissapointing. The taquitos were very small and way overpriced (1.50 for one small, nothing special taquito is ridiculous!). It was also extra for a very small amount of sour cream and guacamole. We were the only people in the place and they still managed to mess up our order. The boy at the register had major attitude and resentfully brought us what we ordered. The taquitos were bland and tiny. We left hungry and pretty irritated. We will not be going back. At this rate, this place will be out of buisness soon.

It was good.
Reviewer: Michael from Santa Barbara, CA
This is a nice place. We ordered the plate of 6 different taquitos and a bowl of pazole since it was a special of the day. The taquitos were cooked to order and that was nice. There is not enough filling to cover up the taste of the fried tortilla. The potato had a great flavor, but the others were overwhelmed by the wrapper. At $1.20 or so per, I guess that is what should have been expected, but since it is a taquito restaurant, I would be willing to pay more for a heartier roll. When presented, they were quite reminiscent of the kind found in the frozen food section of your local grocer. The pazole was fresh but lacked in a few ways. The broth was a bit oily and lacking in heat. The meat was not quite right as it had a dry texture, either from being cooked and added later or it was boiled too long as opposed to being simmered. As well, being presented with just a bowl of soup is not as nice as getting a plate of cabbage, onions, cilantro, lime, oregano, etc. Having to ask for that stuff throws off the whole "package" of ordering pazole. The hot sauces, 3 of them, were nice. The green was the hottest compared to the two reds offered, but the sauce labeled hot had the nicest flavor. All 3 were on the table and we used plenty of them. A side of guacamole for 50cents is unheard of in this town and they made a nice simple one. Good, creamy and a delicate flavor. The people working were very accommodating and quite happy that we were there. We would love to go back, but feel there should be a little more bang for our bucks. Pack them full of the same fillings and charge more and I truly believe this place will do just fine.

Small Taquitos, they need to expand to more items
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
Agree with some of the neg reviews below. This place is patterned off of a place in Mexico that the owners have or are related to apparently. With Mex places in SB that have such a wider range of stuff I'm not sure how long this place will last. Suggestions they could add are at least beans, rice and chips which are easy to do and they could make more money that way. A soda fountain option would be good too. Their Red Salsa is amazing, the green is good too but a little too hot for me. The guac was standard. Another thing they could do is Flautas(use Flour instead of Corn tortillas) to make something bigger. I agree with others that you are mostly tasting the fried tortilla but if your baseline is grocery store taquitos then these are better. Too many other places in town are doing Flautas which I like better than taquitos. The people were nice there. They really have a great location over other small mex places in town, hopefully they can expand on their menu.

Loved it!
Reviewer: Mike V from Santa Barbara, CA
The rajas taquito was the bomb!!! My kids loved it as well. This place keeps it simple and makes great taquitos! The tortilla they are using is perfect, nice and crispy and flavorful, complimenting the fillings! Loved it and can't wait to go back.

Great idea but...
Reviewer: Sophia from Santa Barbara, CA
Call me a bad mom, but my kids LOVE taquitos and I let them order them rather than fight to get them to eat something healthier when we eat out. Needless to say, I thought this place would be ideal. Loved the idea, and it's cheap with great service. However, the taquitos are slim with scant filling (probably authentic, if taquitos are authentic) and you get more fried tortilla than anything else. The rajas were good but insubstantial, hard to taste the filling; hot salsa is provided and needed for each type of taquito to make them flavorful. I would recommend this place for a late night snack but not a destination in itself.

At last, vegetarian taquitos
Reviewer: KR from Santa Barbara, CA
It is great to have THREE vegetarian options for taquitos: potato, beans and peppers. Good salsa, very nice owners. Warm ambience and nice fireplace.

It's about time we had a restaurant like this
Reviewer: Jeff Quentin from Santa Barbara, CA
I went to the restaurant for the first time. However, it will not be my last. The food was really good. I am a taquito guy anyway. They really knew how to make them. Also the Service was great, and they seemed like they really cared. That was even when there was a long line behind me. I guess I know where I am eating lunch when downtown.

An Awesome Find!
Reviewer: Jeanie from Santa Barbara, CA
I love the concept of just taquitos, like In n Out does just burgers! This is a family-run business that knows how to roll taquitos! I thought the atmosphere was really friendly, enthusiastic staff, and faster service than I had first thought for just opening. The food was tasty, especially the rajas taquitos! I spoke with the owner, she said if the taquitos are "bland" in any way, it's because there's no artificial flavorings or lard in them. Which makes them a healthier taquito, and that alone is worth a trip there for lunch!! The price is right, too, which is a big plus, and it's right downtown, which makes it an easy stop.

It is what it is
Reviewer: Rob from Santa Barbara, CA
Stopped here to check it out last week and was largely underwhelmed to say the least. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't amazing either, it was just taquitos, hence the 3 star rating. I tried all three of the meat filled taquitos, chicken, shredded & ground beef, and they were ok, just didn't knock my socks off. For the price I'm not going to complain too much, and because it wasn't very expensive I'll probably go back, it does the job when you're looking for a light lunch or snack.

Great food, could use a bit more variety, inconsistant staff
Reviewer: Donny Wyatt from Santa Barbara, CA
I've been here twice, and each time the food was great. With regards to the review saying there should be more filling % versus tortilla, I think this place seems to put in an amount that is pretty standard. It might be nice though for them to offer an option like burger places do like double meat. They could charge more for it, so you could have the option. Anyway, I found the ratio excellent as it was. I've seen the owners there and they were really engaged and anxious for feedback which I liked, but some of the other staff (a couple younger women) seemed more "bleh". Not unpleasant but the place is kinda new for low energy staff. Since the place is new I'll assume they will work out the staffing. I'll write another review if they don't. All in all this will get my business regularly, as there really isn't anything like this in town.

The taquitos are very bland but improvement is possible.
Reviewer: Ryan from Santa Barbara, CA
I visited this place on 21 January. I ordered the Surtido, which is one of each kind of taquito. The place has potential but right now I would not recommend it. The Good: Very friendly staff, the salsa is excellent, the prices are low, and Mel's is next door. The Bad: Taquitos over-fried and the fillings are bland. The taste of fried tortilla was so strong it was impossible to taste the filling inside the taquito. Suggestions: If they would use 15-20% more meat/veg/cheese, season these fillings a little more, and reduce the frying time just a little, these taquitos would taste better than the frozen ones at the grocery store. Right now, however, they do not.

Not yet ready for prime time!!!
Reviewer: Peter from Santa Barbara, CA
Great concept! However, they did not "hit the ground running" upon their grand opening. called in for a to go order which they said would be ready in 15 minutes...waited an additional 45 minutes. Very friendly staff, however the kitchen staff (food preparers) were obviously not trained or experienced in food preparation (owner stated that she needed to hire more staff). seating area is very limited, I would recommend this eatery as more of a takeout establishment than a sit down place. Taquitos were good, but could benefit from a salsa bar instead of the pre packaged, portion controlled offering. Wait a few weeks and give it a go!

Yummy
Reviewer: JP from Santa Barbara, CA
These taquitos are great. Super simple, traditional and tasty. Service was great and quick. I got the Surtido which includes one of each of the taquitos and all the toppings. My favorite was the rajas.

Tasty Taquitos
Reviewer: Cooper from Santa Barbara, CA
I recently had lunch at Tepeyac and was pleasantly surprised! I was interested in trying this place after seeing the large turn out at their grand opening, I just happened to be passing by that day and was impressed. After eating there, I can see why so many people were eagerly standing in line when they first opened. The staff was very friendly and the dining area, although kind of small, was cheery and inviting. The menu is basic and only offers taquitos. There are chicken, beef, potato, rice, and bean fillings which offers some variety. It's a bold move, but I think they are showcasing their capabilities with these tasty taquitos, I hope to see an expansion of their menu once they get a solid customer following, which won't be difficult to do if they keep on doing what they are doing!!
