Lunch: Good food, bad service, 11/1/2016

They need to better train their server. I have eaten here twice for lunch. Given a menu and then had to flag down the server to take my order. Same for getting the check. It could be really good with better service.

Disappointment

Was really pleased to see a new Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood. Really liked Lucky Dragon, but China King closer, so gave it a try for take out Sat eve after long drive back from thanksgiving get away. Phone service was fine and pick up timely, but food quite a disappointment. Very very greasy, too much cornstarch and overcooked mushy vegetables. We had hot and sour soup, that had oil floating on top, basil chicken, and Imperial shrimp, way sticky with cornstarch and mushed vegetables. Definitely appeared to not have been freshly cooked, and really not much flavor that makes for a good Chinese dish. So sad to report this as I so wish them well as a nice neighborhood venue. Hopefully as they settle in there will be an improvement.

I called in on a Friday around 5:15pm to place an order for pick up.. I expected them to say it would be around 15 minutes... I was very surprised when they said 30 to 40 minutes.. Anyways, I arrived to the store at 40 minutes after placing the order and I was forced to wait an additional 15 minutes! I am sorry, but almost an hour wait for Chinese pick up is crazy. They didn't even apologize.. The severs all seemed kind of lost and confused. They didn't even have a cash register. They were having to use the calculators on their phones to calculate the total bill.. My vegetarian kung pao chicken was good, but my wife didn't enjoy her sweet and sour shrimp. She said the shrimp tasted kind of old.. Anyways, I might give them another shot, but not if there is a crazy long wait like before.

AMAZING. And love the look

When I first stepped in, the owner greeted me with that warm smile that we had some to love since they owned Mandarin Palace. Food was excellent and mouthwatering as always. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Real chinese food is finally back!!! Been there 4 times this week...hahaha

Overpriced, overcharged and underwhelmed

After ordering my family's to go dinner, I added up the bill with the waitress as it seemed really expensive. She was off by $20! Which we corrected because I was paying attention. The Szechwan Beef seemed strange texture, we didn't eat it. General Tso chicken had Hoisen sauce..odd. Orange chicken was super bland and overbreaded. Overpriced and mediocre at best. Too bad...

Hooray-The Best Chinese In Town Is Back!!!
Reviewer: Barry from Santa Barbara, CA
Went over to China King yesterday afternoon to pick up a menu. And there she was the wonderful former owner of Mandarin Palace. Any yes the menu is just like Mandarin Palace. Went back last night for dinner and the place was packed. Best of all the food was just fantastic, great egg rolls, incredible hot and sour soup, wonderful orange peel beef, and way too much more. All of it was perfect and the staff was as charming and warm as the owner. So happy there's great Chinese food once again in our town!

China King really is the king of Chinese food

Went for dinner on Wednesday, owner remembered us after we asked about the China King special being the same as the old Mandarin Palace one. So glad this is here, especially in the Goodland. They deliver all the way out to Ellwood, too! ($25 minimum) Service was a little slow, but that could just be opening wrinkles.
