Great place to eat, 2/13/2014
Reviewer: Wayne from Santa Barbara, CA
I have been coming to this restaurant off-on now for 17 years. The service has always been great, Krista, Terri and Lucy have always taken good care of me and I have NEVER and a bad meal. The prices are fair so go there.

Great fish & chips, 10/4/2013
Reviewer: Phil from Goleta
I've been coming here for over 40 years for the chowder and fish & chips. I've been to the other trendy fish restaurants, and still prefer the Breakwaters chowder and fish & chips. Only once did I complain about the food, and they took care of it! Never had bad service. Always friendly and fast. I recommend Breakwater for a good dinner without the big bill ! They also allow pets on the patio.

unsanitary conditions, 6/12/2013
Reviewer: Holly from Santa Barbara, CA
I have visited this establishment a good 4-5 previous times. On the most previous visit I witnessed multiple plates waiting to be delivered to tables stacked on one another. The were full of food. This was on a Sun AM. Extreme food violation due to sanitation. I returned to the restaurant today 6/12/13. Ordered mozzarella sticks, clam strips and NE clam chowder. Mozz sticks arrived first and were cold in the center. Note: 5 pieces in a plate serving. 1.5 pieces tested and returned 3 pieces due to not being cooked properly. Sever took mozzarella back as a complaint. I was re-served the same 3 pieces that were sent back to the kitchen. The Breakwater kitchen staff put the mozzarella sticks taken from the table as a complaint and RE-FRIED THEM IN THE SAME OIL USED FOR ALL NEW ORDERS FOR THE ENTIRE RESTURANT!!!!! HEALTH VIOLATION! DISGUSTING! I refused all other food ordered & only paid for the 1 beer and 1 wine ordered. These folks know nothing about sanitation! & I happen to work in the food/bar industry! Do Not Go Here!!!!!!!

Excellent breakfast!
Reviewer: Carole from Steamboat Springs, CO
Ate breakfast outside and enjoyed the food and the harbor ambience. My Florentine Eggs Benedict were delicious, almost as good as our favorite home town breakfast restaurant which specializes in eggs Benedict. My husband's breakfast was also very good, and the fruit cup was especially nice. The service was a little forgetful, but nothing was too outrageous. Did not love the loud music playing at that early hour.

A wonderful end to our first visit to CA
Reviewer: Grace and Anita from London, Great Britain
We were looking for somewhere to enjoy some local seafood and soak up some final holiday sun rays - so glad we found Breakwater! We sat outside, looking towards the harbor and caught the last of the evening sunshine. Our waitress Susan was a complete star. I've very rarely met anyone as genuinely helpful as her - making sound recommendations on the menu and wine to match (without just picking all the most expensive options!!) The food didn't pretend to be gourmet, and neither did the prices, which was exactly what we wanted. The portions were a good size too - we shared a main to save room for dessert =D When the sun tucked below the horizon they brought over a heater lamp so we could still enjoy the view and fresh air without freezing ourselves... A couple came in with their two young children and were treated very well too, with high chairs brought over and seats moved around without a fuss. Seems like a great place to bring children, but also to celebrate the end of a great holiday with friends or family. If you're looking for somewhere flashy and 'cool', this isn't it. But if you want some great food, fantastic service and not break the bank - I couldn't recommend here more highly. Special thanks again to Susan, our waitress - you really made the experience a memorable one for us.

Do not come here!
Reviewer: Brian from Santa Barbara, CA
I am a commercial fisherman at this harbor and should have known better than to come here having heard horror stories. The 2 of us were served far after a group of 4 that was seated long after us. Food was bad when it finally did arrive. I'm never coming here again and I will make sure people I know don't either.

Horrible coffee
Reviewer: Jonathan from Santa Barbara, CA
Unfortunately Breakwater has some of the worst coffee in SB. I've tried several times, and it is just not drinkable. Way too watery. I can't go there for breakfast anymore because of this. I really hope they stop watering down their coffee

BEST SERVER IN THE WORLD...
Reviewer: JoAnn Schwendtner from Santa Barbara, CA
Krista was our server this morning at the Breakwater Rest. here in S.B. She was the best server I have ever had. I spilled catsup all over my blouse and she proceeded to get what I needed to take the stain out. Now who would have ever done that? I have never had that treatment, ever (in a restaurant) She has been a waitress at that rest. for over 13 years. You are a real jewel Krista. I hope I have that name right. God bless you. I could really tell you enjoy your job. This is called beyond the call of duty. Your care was really appreciated. You are an "angel" 4-sure. Thanks so much.

Excellent sunday lunch place
Reviewer: Jan from Santa Barbara, CA
Breakwater Restaurant is a terrific place to go for weekend lunch. It does not advertise itself as a gourmet place for fine dinning. The food is good, very moderately priced and most of the servers are polite and friendly. We enjoy our weekend fish and chips and clam chowder there and drive up from LA for a lovely Sunday in Santa Barbara. Note: The owners could be a bit more friendly and one or two of the staff are not polite but otherwise we would recommend this place to everyone. Sit outside its gorgeous.

Wonderful place to go!!
Reviewer: Jessica Edd from Rock Springs, WY
I called this restaurant from Wyoming and spoke with the manager about surprising my sister for her birthday. He was happy to oblige and really made quite a big deal about it. I spoke with him several times before our arrival and he knew who we were right when we walked in! The atmosphere was perfect for an early evening dinner and the porch was fantastic. We all had the flat iron steak and coconut shrimp which was excellent and cooked perfectly. Being from Wyoming, I'm very picky about my steaks and I couldn't have asked for a better one! Soon after we finished our meal, the manager, came out with several of the staff with a delicious chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream and a candle. They got the whole restaurant singing and my sister was shocked to see the whole thing happen. The entire experience was so much more than I could have asked a stranger to do for me. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant the next time I am in the Southern California area.

Pleasant suprise

Great food, great service, and super dog friendly
Reviewer: Mary Earp from El Paso, Texas/Los Angeles
This is a perfect restaurant if you want to be on the ocean, have a casual meal at a reasonable price and have your dog welcomed with open arms. The manager came out and greeted us nicely but really made a fuss over our old dog. He offered to bring him water, etc. He did say that they just recently got the OK to have pets in the outside area. The food we ordered was very good, two of us had a fish items and two of us had sandwiches. We will certainly be returning to the Breakwater when we are back in town.
