Reviews by the General Public

Two star restaurant at four star price., 6/1/2010
Reviewer: Doug Scott from Las Vegas, NV
General lack of ambiance here - purposely darkly lit to disguise mostly uninteresting decor. Salad bar is very basic. "Med rare" filet mignon was black on outside and raw in the middle. Good filet doesn't need to be marinated in oil. Service is cafeteria-ish. Hostess was pleasant. There are better places to go to if visiting Santa Barbara.

Just OK, not recommended., 4/10/2010

Just left the restaurant. The food was just ok - I can buy a better steak at Costco for the price of $28, but shrimp was good. Restaurant was busy (its Saturday night)- but service was slow. Very slow. Food delivery was slow. Salad bar, for California fresh, was very poor. No childrens menu. Waiter/help are young and not trained nearly as well as a high end steak restaurant (like I thought this was). Walk accross the street to Ruth's Chris. Or two buildings north to the Treehouse and buy a hamburger. Drinks are cheaper too.

A good all around restaurant, 4/4/2010

Have eaten here many times since they first opened. They are very consistent, the prices are fair and the service excellent. Heres a clue, order anything you want and ask for a side of teriaki sauce(if you like it)It compliments most of fish or meat dish Atmosphere is really nice, and the servers are all helpful...my all time fav in SB

The best local hang out!, 1/19/2010

Just plain great! I had the top sirloin baseball cut and it was delicious! As for the negative reviews, notice most of them are from scorned women. I think this place always trys to meet your desires and will fix it if it is wrong. Heck, they have been in business 43 years! That alone is testiment to it's greatness!

You guys rock!, 1/5/2010

I have dined at Chuck's countless times. I have spent an arm and a leg there and I have also had reasonable bills. This restaurant has GREAT atmosphere, and the staff have been friendly every single time. I absolutely love their Alaskan King Crab and their all you can eat salad bar. Their wine selection is great, and there is also a great seat. I have gone there to hangout at the bar, and that too was fun. A+

All Around Good Experience, 11/1/2009

I haven't dined at Chuck's in years and I am happy to report that the food and service was wonderful. Simple, basic ingredients, but very, very delicious. The salad bar is small, but has some nice veggies. The restaurant was packed, but service was attentive and polite. All the servers were helping one another which added to the speed (not rushed) of service. Looking forward to eating at Chuck's again!

Best Barbecued Chicken Teriaki in town!
Reviewer: John Gilden from Ventura, CA
From the moment you walk in you can smell the wonderful waftings coming from the grill. Then, you are promtly greeted by the host or hostess with a smile. My group and I have always been seated promptly when reservations are made. Service has been very good and attentive. Love the FRESH salad bar. It's almost a meal in itself. I have always ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and love it! Oh, and you have to order the side of sauted mushrooms....to die for! My father has always ordered one of the various fresh fish grilled just right..he is very picky about grilled fish...it has to be done right! My family and I have been going to Chuck's for over 30 years and have been quite pleased with the food and service. I would like to thank all of the folks at Chuck's that have made my families' dining experiences special all of these years.

I Won't Be Back.

I ordered the grilled mixed vegetable entree which, like everything else on the menu, includes the salad bar. My entree consisted of a pile of charred zucchini and 2 burnt cherry tomatoes. When I told the waitress that I had ordered the "mixed" vegetables she said "well that's all the veggies we have tonight." Then she told me that the manager would take the $12.95 entree off the bill and brought back a bill that charged me $9.95 for the bread and carrot sticks I got from the salad bar that was included in the price of the meal. I will NEVER be back after being so royally ripped off.

I agree... save your bucks, don't go to Chuck's.

We decided to try Chuck's last night after hearing about it and seeing the commercials on television. What a disappointment, we ended up leaving before we even ordered drinks or food. When we sat down a waitress walked up and asked us if we wanted to order any drinks, we told her we were good with water for the moment so she walked away from the table. (while rolling her eyes in the process) Then our waiter asked us if we had any questions. My boyfriend didn't want the teriyaki rice with his dish so he asked to substitute it with a baked potato. The waiter told us he would just have to buy an extra baked potato, my boyfriend explained again that he didn't want the rice and the reply was he could substitute but he would have to pay for it. We were a little irked, nowhere on the bottle/menu they gave us did it say no substitutions and we weren't very pleased with the waiter's attitude. We figured the way we were being treated would set the tone for the rest of the evening and we weren't interested in paying somebody to give us an attitude so we left. :\

Good Steak/Dark Decor/OK service
Reviewer: Mary K. from Santa Barbara, CA
The steak was really good and a huge proportion for a small sirloin. The decor was a blast from the past....thought I walked right back into 1976 but older and darker. Wow! Haven't seen iceberg lettuce in about 30 years either, didn't even know you could still get it at salad bars. We were running late and had to change our reservation at the last minute. The hostess was very accommodating. The service was very efficient and polite, but didn't really feel any warmth. On the whole, worth going once to check it out but probably not a second time.

Never Again
Reviewer: Nichole from Santa Barbara, CA
We live up the street from chucks, Always heard it was good, tho over priced... However we gave it a try, Our waitress was nice except she ignored me and my empty ice tea, She prefered my husband, I found it very rude although a bit flattering He is cute! He was not happy with his food or the waitress, I wouldnt recommend this place. As for the manager, your hostess should cover up a bit! A mini dress isn't very professional in the work place....

Ok food, wonderful service
Reviewer: Nicole from Santa Barbara, CA
My only experience here may have been a bit skewed as I was part of a reservation. My boss took the management staff for our company (20 people) here for a dinner. The service was great! We had a short menu to choose from, fish or steak. I went with fish and it was not bad, not wonderful but it's a steakhouse so maybe that's my fault for making a poor decision. The salad bar was very fresh and delicious, the waitress handled our loud group without batting an eyelash. I hope to give this place another try, with steak this time.

Very Pleasantly Surprised
Reviewer: Maury Mills from Ventura, CA
I had dinner for the first time at Chucks with a friend. I had looked at the reviews first and to be honest wasn't expecting great food although everyone seemed to like the service. I had a New York strip that was excellent, comparable to any steak I've had in even the supposed upper crust steak houses and my friend had trout that was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The salad bar was a good compliment with good fresh choices. I certainly would recommend giving it a try.
