Galanga Thai , 10/13/2013
Reviewer: Sally from Santa Barbara, CA
Atmosphere: located on Lower State. Sort of a hodge podge of decorations: pictures of the royal family and lots of tables and chairs. Service: We sat ourselves and the waitress came and gave us menus and water quickly. Our food came quickly. Food/drink: We ordered wonton soup and wish there were more veggies (there were only two shrimp in it) yellow curry: nothing special and beef salad which was tough and dry. Summary: We came here because Zen Yai next door was closed (rats!) and having tried it and not at all wowed with the food, probably won't return.

Ok
Reviewer: Stuart from Santa Barbara, CA
We have a favorite Thai place on upper State but tried Galangal for a change. The food was ok: shrimp coconut milk soup, pad Thai, tofu and eggplant curry, brown rice. The service was efficient but not friendly at all. I would call it businesslike. The place was not crowded. Prices average for Thai food.

Love the food and Service always awesome!

I live in Santa Maria but I miss my dish at Galanga " Seafood with coconut milk" No where can make like them. Service always awesome never changed sine the first day I went in. just love to have lunch or dinner at Galanga every time I go to Santa barbara.

Just Ok Thai Food
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
The food was just Ok for me compared to other places in town. If trying to get a table at Zen Yai a block away and its full you could come here, a very spacious place where you will be able to find a seat no problem. For me the Pad Thai was on the cheaper side, cabbage instead of bean sprouts, and the noodles were way too greasy. The soup was a bit better. The curry dish seemed watered down. So far Meun Thai is my favorite Thai place in town though have only tried half of them. People were nice, been there 20 years.

Best Overall Thai Restaurant in SB
Reviewer: Dave from Santa Barbara, CA
As a long time lover of Thai food, i have made it my mission to try every thai restaurant in town and find out who offers the best service and the best of my three favorite dishes: 1) Phad Thai 2) Satay 3) Panang Chicken Curry. This place has the most authentic Thai food... not watered down with coconut milk, they use their spices to flavor up their food. Their food ranks in the top 3. The service is the best though by far. We are "regulars" and usually have the same server. They are always kind and nice... and we can put in our order by saying "the usual". Never any problems, fast, and consistent quality and taste. And being open until 1030pm on the weekends as well is always nice. Bottom line: You can try the other places in town... but I always find myself wondering why we didn't just go to Galanga :)

Cute quiet place. Delicious food.

It's a great restaurant with quiet but friendly service and great food. It's a small setting but the environment is quiet and serene for a peaceful experience.

Yummy!

I went here last Monday with some friends and it was SO good! I have been sampling thai food all over SB for the last few years and this is by far the best. Everything from the curry to the rice to the noodles was amazing.

O Kaaaaai Thai
Reviewer: Antoni Martin from Santa Barbara, CA
I loved the seating up front quite a nice date window , needs a bit of mood, too much window though" possible "gawkers" hint publicity..I liked the food but feel, not outstanding,OK. I think noodles rather plain, spices as is too mild, but available spice rack is there. Thai Tea my Woman likes, service great attentive and the problem corrected well, timely.oh! fried rolls and sauce Yum!! enjoy if u like, SB has more I read 8).

Good service - not so good food
Reviewer: Paolo from Santa Barbara
The service was excellent, prompt and polite. The serving time was minimal. Still, the food was not really as good as I expected after having read the reviews here. The noodles were greasy and overcooked. The seafood special was not impressive at all, and rather expensive, too, if we consider the fact all seafood was not first class fish (one little piece of tilapia, 2 shrimps, one mussel, etc.) and also was not freshly cooked. Not to mention the celery... since when Thai cuisine features celery? Also I did not like the restaurant's decor too much, as the lights are low and the ambient looks slightly rundown not to say dirty (see the counter's wall if you have doubts).

The best on State St.
Reviewer: C.S. from Goleta, CA
I would have to say I like Galanga better than Zen Yai. The price is more reasonable for the dishes' portions and their food is so good. I've tried the seafood sizzling platter the last time I dined here and it was a winner! The waitstaffs are very polite and attentive as well.

Galanga is good
Reviewer: Greg from Bonsall, CA
While visiting the area we had a tough time deciding between Galanga and Your Place. After a quick look at the menu (menupix dot com)and seeing the duck curry, the decision was made for Galanga. The Roast Duck and the Duck Curry were excellent as was the spicy beef salad, thai bbq chicken, & the spicy mint noodles. We called the order in for pick up, they do not deliver. The order was ready in 15 minutes and we parked across the street in the public parking to pick up the order. Prices were reasonable and food was delicious.

Delicious, affordable, great location
Reviewer: Dennis from Santa Barbara, CA
What if you could have the super-delicious Thai food you've grown to love at Your Place on Milpas...only right on State, with big windows for people watching? Welcome to Galanga. Curries are sweet and delicious, staff are nice (though not very attentive), prices are very reasonable. Atmosphere is a snoozer if you sit toward the back, so either bring a bunch of friends and attack a pot of tom kak kai together, or sit by the windows and watch the world go by.
