Great Food Great Service
Reviewer: Ramon from Santa Barbara, CA
Dined tonight with my wife at Roys about 11 years after our first date at Roys. Excellent food, service and atmosphere then, excellent food, service and atmosphere now. Great place for a date: be it a first or after 8 years of marriage.

Delicious food, great ambiance

My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Roy two years ago and returned for dinner last week just for fun. The seafood pasta was so good I wanted seconds! Everything is made from scratch, including the amazing bread that comes out before your meal. Can't wait to go back and feel silly it took us two years to return! Great service, cool ambiance, insanely good food. Highly recommend!!!

Outstanding Food

I love the food at this place. Excellent value for a fair price. Recommended this place to my 90-year old dad, and he loved the food!

Real food, real people

I love this place, the food is always good, very consistent, service is wonderful, no fake frills, just real food and real people. So refreshing...

Absolutely phenomenal.

Me and my buddy got off work late and wanted a nicer dinner. I have always directed people to Roy, because i know there open late. I had no idea the food was going to be a party in my mouth. I come to find out the man that was pouring water and clearing our plates is Roy himself.I work at a hotel and its my job to know good food, you wont be disappointed. awesome service and superb food. If your looking for a great meal at a great price...easy choice, ROY.

Not good food, poor service
Reviewer: Katy from Santa Barbara, CA
The food was not worth the price. I had the chicken and it was tasteless and the sauce was bland. The service was really poor, the waitress didn't pay attention to us at all. It took 3 hours to have our meal. I won't be returning to this place, there are much better restaurants for the price.

Great food amazing art

Ah, this place is a piece of colorful heaven . I walk in and feel instantly "cool". Had the special filet mignon cooked rare and was very tender . Potato cakes are tasty too. Very nice to be sitting at the bar directly across Roy himself. A special treat is on any given day I can run into or meet one of the local artists , too. Had a creative citrus cocktail that was delish . Server was very accommodating as I bounced around to talk to everyone there. The Jolly Tiger sign brings back so many memories

We didn't even eat!

Walked into Roy's tonight for the $10 dinner special and walked out ten minutes later. Roy himself wouldn't even make eye contact with any member of my party. The restaurant was busy, but not one staff member offered a greeting let alone acknowledgment that we existed. I don't care how great the food is for $10, the service flat out sucks!

$10 per plate? Don't mind if I do...
Reviewer: El Sci from Santa Barbara, CA
So for the whole month of September, they have this special going one where everything is $10 per plate. As the review below noted, this special menu is extremely limited, and I almost left since nothing on there really appealed to me. However, my boyfriend talked me into staying, and I'm so glad I did! He got a salad with a yummy bacon dressing on it, and I got the salmon, which was in a lemon/butter sauce. I'm not usually a fan of the lemon/fish combo, but this was superb, since they sauce tasted like a sweet butter sauce more than anything else. Service was average, but acceptable, and I like that they are open late. I'll be back!

$10 Plate Special a Bit Deceiving.
Reviewer: Cee from Santa Barbara, CA
It's been a while since I've been to Roy. Past experience is the food is good, service just okay, so I don't think to go there much. Saw the $10 plate special they're having and decided to go. I checked out their menu online and called to ask if every plate was really $10 and was told yes, so I made reservations for four last night. It took about 15 minutes for anyone to even notice that we walked in the door and another 20 minutes before someone came to ask about drinks. We noticed that they had a different menu (from the one online) for this special and it was very limited. Plates were $10; however all were appetizers except for about three that were actual entrees. Since every plate was a la cart and we ordered soup and salad, it wasn't much of a "special" considering their regular menu is about $20-30 per entree which includes soup and salad. (Thought they should have clarified their special on their website and when I asked over the phone). It took a while to get our food, but the food was good, service was okay at best. We felt ignored most of the time and will not be going back any time soon.

Great Food with ok service
Reviewer: Ixchelle from Santa Barbara, CA
Recently my husband and I decided to visit Roy's for the first time. There are notoriously few late night options in this town so we decided to give Roy a try. The ambiance is a bit strange, it was late about 10PM and the entire place was VERY dim, the menus are hand written in quirky scribble and there is this giant neon Jolly Tiger sign above the bar. It was like a romantic restaurant mated with a guy's sports bar and they made Roy's. The food however was fabulous! I had the chicken marsala and my husband had the seafood pasta. Both were outstanding and we kept stealing food off each other's plate. The meals were served piping hot and tasted as if a lot of care went in to them. The seafood cooked perfectly, the chicken moist, the pasta oh so yummy, even the vegetables were crisp outside and tender inside. I addition we had soup and salad that were included in the meal and both were equally as savory. The freshness in each dish was distinct. The typical $25ish for each plate in this town suddenly became a competitive $25ish as each entree included soup salad and the ever elusive HOT bread. Not to mention decent sized portions. The service however seemed almost typical Santa Barbara, the server was a bit aloof (though it seemed like he was doing it purposefully). In his defense he did bring our food hot and noted the beverage refills...and eventually at the end of the meal he did hint at a smile. Overall we can't wait to go back and help ourselves to another serving of Roy's.

Same poor service... Good food

I don't know why...but there's always only one server in here everytime I come. It is soooooo slow it's painful. Waitress is overwhelmed and makes mistakes. She is curteous and I wait 15 mins for a martini and 35 mins for a salad. Sigh...I'm there now. On my iPhone.
