The name "KALYRA" is a translation from the Australian Aboriginal meaning "a wild and pleasant place." Kalyra "The little winery with a big personality" is the pride and imagination of Australian born winemaker Mike Brown. Kalyra wines were first bottled in 1989 using winemaking experience Mike gleaned from his rambles and viticultural education covering two continents. Mike has accumulated over 20 years experience as winemaker for Buttonwood Farm Winery, Santa Ynez Winery, Mosby Winery and Zaca Mesa Winery.

Mike Brown's wines are made with fruit grown from a variety of regions. Even though Santa Ynez Valley offers some of the best vineyard sources in the country, Mike ventures to find fruit from Monterey, Amador and Madera counties, and the result is a varied and award winning portfolio of table and dessert wines.

The philosophy behind these wines is that good wine should exhibit the flavors of the fruit used and that it should highlight the distinct varietal characteristics of the regions it came from.
