TEPEYAC TAQUITOS OPENS SATURDAY

Owners Laura & Ernie Rodriguez open their new Mexican restaurant named Tepeyac Taquitos at noon this Saturday at 201 W Carrillo St., near the intersection of Carrillo & De La Vina. The grand opening will be featuring live Spanish guitar music by Anthony Ybarra (12-5pm) and half price taquitos all day. Laura tells me that her husband’s grandmother started the first Tepeyac Taquitos in Durango Mexico in 1950 and it is still there, being run by his one (out of 10) uncles that is still in Mexico.

The main menu at Tepeyac Taquitos is simple: meat taquitos $1.30 (shredded beef, ground beef or chicken), veggie taquitos $1.10 (potato, rajas, or bean) and Surtido (meaning one of each) is $6.00. Other items are also available. Scheduled hours are Sun-Thu 11am-9pm, Fri-Sat 11am-11pm. For more information call 899-7755 or visit tepeyactaquitos.com. Check out the music that automatcally plays on the web site – classic!

    They need guacamole.

Hi, we are trying to bring it to SB just as it is in Mexico (minus the lard) but we do have avocado as an optional topping (which is how they serve it there). Perhaps we will add guac in the future if it is highly requested. We are certainly open to comments and suggestions! :)Thanks, Laura & Ernie Rodriguez

    Hello again,
We now have guac on the menu! We have also added side order options of rice and beans. Thanks for your suggestions, many asked for it, so there it is. :)Laura & Ernie Rodriguez

Went by today to check it out, and the food was good, but the service needs to be a little speedier. . After waiting 10 minutes to order I waited another 20 minutes for 6 taquitos, it wasn’t very busy and there’s only one thing to order. Good thing it was a holiday and I wasn’t on a ‘lunch hour’.

I hope to try these taquitos soon… I love the basics of Mexican Food..simple yet flavorful… hope there is some spicy salsa

Yes, I agree. The demand has been much greater than we had expected and we need to hire more staff. Please be patient with us as new restaurant owners while we iron out all the glitches. Hopefully we will be running more efficiently with more staff and supply to keep up the great quality at a faster pace. Thanks for the feedback. :)Laura & Ernie

No lard? What are you using instead? Lard is healthier than shortening or butter.
