Last week I received a tip about Kobachi at 4141 State St. that resulted in me calling during the lunch hour to see if they are still in business. I have not been able to reach them yet.

It has been confirmed that they are shuttered, permanently.
Bummer! The quality had been going downhill lately and I have to say I was not going as often because of it. Still a shame though as it was the only izakaya in town.
Has anyone gone over to Ahi and asked them what the deal is?
I am sure LJ can elaborate but the chef said the quality suffers at whichever restaurant he’s not at. He can’t handle both so he wants to focus on Ahi.
The chef was having to split his time between Ahi and Kobachi, so one got the chop. Part of the izakaya menu will migrate to Ahi, so all is not lost.
You can follow updates on Ahi’s new FB page, they post specials and seasonal items, plus updates on rolling out izakaya/kobachi items.

Thanks for the info. That makes a ton of sense actually as it seemed the quality had dropped at both. It seems I was hitting the wrong one on the wrong night. Good to hear the izakaya menu is moving over. I can’t say I’ll miss the old space as it always seemed liked a weird setup.
But parking was way easier.
In the evening yes, during the day not so much.
Let’s be honest, nobody visits that plaza during the day. It’s a nightmare. I made that mistake once.
