ROOST OPENS NEAR THE ARLINGTON

Reader Tony and other informative folks tell me that Roost restaurant has opened at 1305 State Street, the former long-time home of Downey’s. I stopped by a few times during the lunch hour and at 8 p.m. last Saturday and each time there was nobody around, with no hours posted on the door, so your guess is as good as mine as to what is the best day and time to check them out. Fortunately reader Tony took a photo of the menu during one of their brief appearances which shows it includes Starters: Pimiento Cheese ($6), Lemon Chicken Soup ($7), Bruschetta ($8); Salads: Roost ($16), Pacific Ahi ($16); Hand Held: Roast Chicken Sandwich ($15), Porchetta ($16), Wagyu Sirloin ($16); Entrees: Mary’s Half Chicken ($21), Porchetta ($21), Wagyo Sirloin ($24), Stuffed Pasilla Chiles ($21); and a variety of sides dishes.

So… is it open? Or not?

I was there a few days ago and they were open. A woman there said they’re open for dinner, I think she said 5:30pm – 10pm; but they might not be open every day yet, until they get enough kitchen staff.
I had a Wagyo Sirloin sandwich… it was good.
