Reader Cris let me know that Kahuna Grill at Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta has closed. Kahuna was one of the original restaurants to open at the marketplace and had a second location in Paseo Nuevo downtown from 2008-2014. “Kahuna Grill is officially closed,” the eatery said in an announcement on their Facebook page. “It’s been fun! Thanks for many years of business! We’ll miss you.” Word on the street is that Mesa Burger is opening their second location in this space though I have not yet confirmed it.

Mesa Burger is opening their second location in this space.
Confirmed on their Facebook today
Wow seemed right out of left field. Just ate there last week. It was very busy like always. Don’t like Mesa Burgers. Expensive and mediocre.
Fake news.
Kahuna Burger: Cheeseburger: $7.49, Fries: $2.99; Total: 10.48
Mesa Burger: Mesa Burger (comes with fries) Total: $10
Mesa Burger uses higher quality and larger patties (1/3 pound) vs. Kahuna (1/4 pound Sysco truck pattie) so value wise Mesa burger prevails.
Except on Wednesdays.
Wow, end of an era, I just ate at Kahuna too and it was great. LOVE Mesa Burger!
John, Mesa Burgers has had job listings on Craig’s List for weeks for a second location. (Other new places are seeking employees as well-might be a good source for your rumors column)
Yo Yo Jo Jo! Let’s call you clueless news…cause we really don’t want be be sounding like the Donald! A Kahuna combo was cheeseburger, fries and a soda totaling $10.48. There was a side of fries on the menu for $2.99 but it was a 1/2 pound of fries meant to be shared. Kahuna bought their meat from the same vendor for 17 years that Mesa now uses. And, it was a 1/3 pound patty. Having said all that, Mesa Burger does a good job and should do well at Camino Real Marketplace!!!
Chef Cat Cora still owner?
