I wish this store would come back in my dreams!!, 4/12/2011

Probably the best salami/Pastrami sandwiches man has ever touched eyes on...This place was sacred for me. There was no other time I was happpier in my experience around eating than was at this place. This place sold out to the new Verizon store, now all we have are cheapass Verizon phones. I wish the owners the best of luck and if ever happens to be another place like this someone better tell me.

I'm Swedish but lived in S.B. for a little while 11 years ago and was planning to take my children there this summer to show them one of my favourite places in the whole world, Italian Greek Market. When I googled it and discovered it doesn't exist anymore I seriously started to cry. The world is changing so rapidly, but I thought this wonderful place would be there forever and ever. This is so, so sad.

It's been over a year now, but not a week goes by without someone mentioning the loss of the I&G Market. We miss you guys! There are plenty of sandwich shops in town, but none of them equal the service, quality and atmosphere of the Italian Greek Market.

We're really going to miss the deli, and of course the hot pastrami, but we are so looking forward to the new offerings at Trattoria Vittoria. Best of luck to Johnny and family...wishing you all good things!!!

My husband and I are driving down from San Francisco to have our last lunch Friday, April 13. We love your pastrami sandwiches....... the best in California! We will miss you guys. Good luck with the new restaurant. The Baker

I stopped by this afternoon and they were very busy. The food and the people were great as always! I'm going to miss their sandwiches! I've been going there since I was a kid and it saddens me to see it close. I talked to the owner briefly while he rang me up that they have or their going to open a restaurant. Trattoria Vittoria on 30 E. Victoria. Best wishes, but I'll still miss the deli!

Agree, best in town. However, read the place is closing down soon. Any info out there?

When we come to SB, this is a "must stop". You can't go wrong with the home food taste and feel.

I went here for lunch for the first time and simply said, I had a great experience! My friend and I both ordered the Gyros and found it amazingly good. Not only that, their price is really reasonable! I'm definitely going back there again to try their other stuff!

The only Gyros I will eat, 1/18/2007
Reviewer: Derrik from Cito
I've been comming here since 1978, their Gyros are the best I've ever had and have givin up trying them elsewhere. Sometimes it gets a bit hectic, but they do a very good job (the new youngins workin there can have a bit of an attitude, but the owner and those who have been there for years are awesome). Two beef Gyros, no onions, to go, please!

Yum..., 11/17/2006

I love the mini bottles of wine and the sandwiches are huge and delicious! My only complaint would be in the clenliness of the tables in the back.

I am planning to move to Santa barbara because I love the area. I own a true Greek restaurant in Kentucky and I am moving there, do you think it's a good idea?

Great Food and Wonderful Service!, 6/19/2006

I just got a job at Ann Taylor Loft in the Paseo Nuevo Mall so my manager and I were wandering around looking for some great new food places within walking distance of our store. Luckily we were both in the mood for sandwiches! As soon as we walked in everyone greeted us with big smiles and were ready to take our order and answer any questions we might have had. The thing that I liked most about our experience was the "waitress" who brought us our food, she was so friendly and brought us our sandwiches as soon as they came out of the oven. Then the best part after all the friendly service was the great taste. I would definatley recommend this place to anyone who loves friendly service and a great sandwich!

old rickety place, but oh what a sandwhich!, 5/14/2006
Reviewer: Lew Marklin Mash from Santa Barbara
I was not impressed with the place that looks like it was transported from the Venice Beach walk, at first. However, the service is great, and the sandwhiches are out of this world!

sandwiches are ok, greek food is not greek, not a people friendly place

Looks homey & very old world, but not big on taste..., 3/24/2006
Reviewer: Michelle from Orange County, CA
This deli is totally a family owned place. I saw this place online and read some positive and negative reviews, but I wanted to give it a try cuz we were gonna be in the area and we love greek food... The setting is nice- its old world, totally low key...seems authentic...and offers both a bite to eat and some greek and italian grocery staples...I have eaten falafel at 12 restaurants all over south cali and this one was mediocre. The taste was ok but the texture a bit smushy. The tahini tasted like it came straight from the can...I wanted spanokopita but they said it wasn't available...Although the artichoke salad was delicious...try a bit of that...I was disappointed because the deli looked like it was gonna be some good home cooked food....But give it a try, maybe the other stuff is better....I just have had a lot better...

Great place for a quick lunch, 1/18/2006

I always order the gyros sandwhich here, it's the best I've found in Santa Barbara! It's a great place to go if you want something casual. There is also a market on site that has some great imported specialties. I would recommend this place to anyone.

It's an insult to Greek and Italian food, 8/23/2005
Reviewer: Patchou from Santa Barbara, CA
Unfortunately if you like Greek food you came to the wrong place. This restaurant is excessively Americanized... The only thing that is Greek about the food is the dish’ names. Although, in general most of their sandwiches are ok, I am not afraid to say that the gyro is simply the worst I ever had. The lamb looks creepy (literally); it seems to be ground lamb? and possibly frozen. The meat is flavorless, but in addition they microwave it!!! The pitas are not fresh, too thick, and too chewy. The moussaka is blend; the humus tasteless, and the tzatziki insipid. No tarama or eggplant caviar on the menu :( . Again, besides the name, nothing in this restaurant is Greek. My take on it: Good for students looking for a cheap and quick sandwich-like meal, but don't expect anything Greek or Italian from them, otherwise you will be disappointed.

Ambiance is what makes the Greek so amazing. The food is good, but Greek Salad is plain and has lettuce?? Veggie Lasagna is killer. Great Beer selection.

good gyros, guys!, 6/26/2005
Reviewer: Felipe C.S. from Goleta, CA
The gyros are soft, meatfilled, and covered with great taziki sauce. Sure, no one waits on you, but is ordering from a counter so bad?

Delicious Soups and Great Service, 5/21/2005
Reviewer: Santa Barbara Dianne from Santa Barbara
I have eaten here just a few times when I am out shopping alone and it is perfect for a quick, uncomplicated, yet delicious bite to eat. The soups are very wholesome and delicious. The dining area is quaint in it´s oldness and comfortable for eating alone.

Reviewer: brooke from santa barbara, CA
The greek food here is awful! the salad was alright, but the Gyros were very thin and were tough. i would NOT recommend anyone to have the gyros.

Heavy, uninspiring and tasteless, 5/7/2005

Perhpas because they have a lock on the italian style deli theme, the owners and staff at this Market do not try hard to make your dining experience pleasant. Indeed, no one greets you when you walk in and no one comes to take your order. When you finally realize that then you are likely to order your food, but be careful, if you don´t like heavy italian food that comes with a lot of grease and fat but lacks spices then don´t order cooked food here.

Fantastic, 5/6/2005

Me and my fiance can´t agree on many places to eat but this place is so fabulous that we always agree. Great food at a reasonable price!

GREAT STUFF! Highly reccomend the hot pastrami sandwhich, and the lamb gyro.

This downtown deli is so cool., 2/2/2005
Reviewer: Matt from Santa Barbara
From another place and time this deli offers lots of specials and great sandwiches in a very unique atmosphere. First you order at the giant deli counter. I recommend the hot Tri-Tip on a toasted, not micro-waved french roll with extra salsa or the Giro or an Italian Sub. Then find a seat. Don´t forget to choose a beverage on the way. Eat, enjoy and pay on the way out. Kinda european, very italian!
