Wonderful food--especially the rice and hummus, 7/30/2006

We often took food home with us and everything was absolutely wonderful! The sides of plain rice always included grilled tomatoes and the rice specialties were fabulous some with sour cherries and currants; the rice with dates, currants, and raisins was especially delicious! The kebabs and other chicken and lambs dishes were equally tantilizing. We were extremely disappointed when we discovered it had closed.

The food was the best, the lamb and all the rest.

We had a large party the day we visited Zaffron, so we got to try quite a bit on the menu. Everything was very very good. We were really impressed with the sides of rice that came with each entree, every entree came with a different rice selection. Very yummy and each type of rice was seasoned differently with different additions like sour cherries or lentils and raisins . We definitely plan on going again.

Belly Dancer and Ice Cream too!, 6/6/2005

I went to "Zaffron"- the new name of Jake´s Steak and Kabob. The food was outstanding- the servce good, and the ambiance excellent. There were a majority of patrons from the Middle East. That says something about the authenticity of the menu. We loved the appetizer, the main courses and the ice cream was very unique! You have to have the ice cream. The belly dancer and music was well woth the $5.00 charge.

Pretty Good Persian Food For SB, 3/31/2005

Not better than some Persian food found in L.A., but for S.B. this place was good. We were really excited to discover a place in town serving Persian food and we weren´t disappointed. As they stay open longer and get more customers maybe they will become even better. Definitley a good place to try Persian dishes in S.B. if you´ve never had them. The staff is very pleasant and attentive. The decor IS more like a steak house than Middle Eastern, but the Persian food was more interesting to us than the steaks. The food was good enough to make us forget we were dining in a steak house atmosphere and transported us to the shore of the Caspian Sea! We hope more people try it so that they will stay in business and we can have a good Persian meal out instead of always having to prepare it at home! I think they could use some better advertising and promotions or something to get the word out that they serve Persian food as well as steaks (we hope one day they´ll abandon the steak in favor of strictly Persian food; Santa Barbarans would love lamb kabob!)!

really excellent middle eastern food, 3/6/2005

I would rate this restaurant 5 stars based on the quality of the food served there (I am talking mostly about the Middle-eastern based dishes). The menu is not too extensive, but I totally recommend both the appetizers and the entrees. The persian icecream was amazing. The wine corking fee was very reasonable ($7) the atmosphere is more of a steak place (with booths) and not very fancy, not to mention that the location is a little out of the way. But I would totally recommend visiting it and indulge in the persian culinary feasts
