Best Breakfast Place in Santa Barbara!!!
Reviewer: M&M from Santa Barbara, CA
Garrett's NEVER fail! This place has the best fresh food you can get and the service is also five starts! Better than some super upscale gourmet restaurant! You never have to wait for food. They are just great at what they do. Love, love, love this place! Their pancake syrup bottle is always I mean always clean!!!!!

Just love love love this place!

I really love this place! the Avocado cheese burger is amazing and the avocado is always perfect. My daughter cannot get enough of their pancakes. I have had their breakfast burritos too which were so yum! I am told their egg salad sandwiches are worth the trip down. The staff is so sweet! They seem to really care about every person that walks in their door. I would eat there every day if I could. Everyone I have sent there has given me a big thumbs up. Quick service and always with a big genuine smile.

Hate to make this place even more popular
Reviewer: Jinelle from Santa Barbara, CA
Sort of place you hate to see get even more popular because they do everything right, from the moment you walk in and are immediately greeted to the speediest food service anywhere to the perfection of what was ordered. In our case two tall glasses of fresh squeeze orange juice and two eggs benedict. What a way to start the day! Sunday morning, yes it was crowded but with the quick service and one course meals most order at this time of the day, we were able to slip right in after someone was leaving so one hopefully will not have much of a wait, because this place has earned its full popularity. They cared and we cared. How is that for a winning Santa Barbara restaurant formula. Has to be the best breakfast in town and certainly is the best spot for eggs benedict we have found among the several others with high reputations in this town: Crocodile and Las Aves. Love it when a place gets this classic just right. Lemony hollandaise, quivering yolk, no runny whites, tender canadian bacon, just perfect toasted english muffin - sides of hash brown or home fries with peppers and onions. Bet their lunch time Angus burger is just as good. We will be back for more.

Good unpretentious service and food; reasonably priced

Have always enjoyed sitting in the booth, reading a paper watching the courtesy of Garret's employees. They greet and open the door for the elderly, they have a bit of authenticity in the food and service. Living in the neighborhood I drop in for breakfast about every week now. Good food and prices. Recommended.

Great food, great service!

The people here are so friendly. I've been coming for years and they always ask how I'm doing, even when they see me around town. They know my order, club sandwich on sourdough. Which is very good! Only open for breakfast and lunch. They close around 2pm, it gets really packed around breakfast time, so my boyfriend and I go around 10-11. We love this place so much we come here arond 3-4 times a month.

Good food and service, nice people

I live in the neighborhood and eat at Garrett's on the weekends from time to time. Note: they actually close at 2:30 instead of 3 as it says here. Nonetheless, when I showed up around 2:45 one day, jonesing for a burger, they kindly prepared it for me and wrapped it up to go. When I was there last weekend, again having a juicy, delicious burger, I was reminded of the drawback of this place--their ketchup is not Heinz! They also have quite good pancakes, but their syrup tastes cheap and fake. I don't expect them to shell out for pure Vermont maple syrup, but they should be able to get something that tastes better, and Heinz can't cost much more than Hunt's or whatever they're using. I've thought quite seriously about bringing my own ketchup when I eat there. If they could just step it up a notch on the condiments, their food would be perfect. When I mentioned it to the server, she brought me a pen and paper to write a note to the owner, which I did... we'll see if anything comes of it!

I love this place

Great food, amazingly inexpensive prices for SB and a friendly and attentive staff. What more can you ask for? Recently started going here again on recommendation of my older teen daughter (who's always looking for plentiful food at cheap prices) and am now a weekend breakfast regular. Great combo plates/homemade blueberry pancakes, free coffee refills etc. I had actually gone to this years ago when it was under different ownership/name (Flying A?/) when I first moved to SB 20 years ago and lived in the neighborhood. Glad I rediscovered this place. Thanks, Anna.

Great Neighborhood Diner
Reviewer: Melanie from Santa Barbara, CA
This is my favorite breakfast place in town. The food is classic diner fare, and the service is friendly and quick. Every time I've gone in (about 6 visits in the past few months) the owners and staff have greeted me warmly and made me feel as welcome as a long-time regular. The booths are comfortable, the coffee is fresh -- with generous refills -- and the restaurant is always bright, clean and busy. A great place to share breakfast with friends, or to sit alone and read the paper. Love the Monte Cristo sandwich!

Best breakfast in Santa Barbara!

I have eaten at Garretts for as long as I've been living in Santa Barbara. I'm a breakfast nut & have tried almost all the competition, it's definitely the best. As for the comments on service, maybe you saw someone eat a pancake, they have to eat too. The wound, really? That's disgusting & if in fact that is actually what you witnessed you should have notified the waitress to notify management & health officials. I've watched them prepare my food hundred of times as I normally dine alone & after work, so honestly there's not much for me to do but anxiously await my breakfast! I've never witnessed anything like those 2 people report.

Thanks for setting the record straight...I will be there for Blueberry pancakes tomorrow morning. Kris

In response to Carmen/Nurse/Cat - I am responding to these 3 negative reviews on behalf of the owners of the restaurant. I am their daughter and I am doing this because not only do I know how much they care about their customers/restaurant, but because my parents are not internet savy and do not even have an email account. From the moment they took over the restaurant, my parents only use fresh ingredients and handle their food with the utmost care/cleanliness. Unfortunately, an owner can't control every little thing his/her employee does (unless they had eyes in the back of their heads), but they can try their best. In actuality, my mother spoke to the employee in regards to the incident with the cook immediately afterwards in private, to get his side of the story and tell the customer's concern (2 sides to every story). I think that is the respectful and appropriate thing to do. And customers wouldn't know this, but there are sinks in the back of the restaurant that customers can not see because it is behind closed doors. My parents are constantly working according to best practice, and hold themselves to the highest restaurant standards to bring the SB community/others the best quality/clean food and affordable prices. The owners work very hard, check and re-check everything, and are very clean. Trust me! My parents are the hardest working people I know. Everyday after work hours, they are going to 2-3 different stores to buy supplies for the next day. They truly care about the quality of food and service they are giving to each customer.

Best Breakfast in Santa Barbara!

My husband and I loved to go to Garrett's for breakfast on weekends. My favorite is the eggs benedict and the hash browns that come with it! They add avocado to the eggs benedict which makes it even better!! My husband's favorite item on the menu is the Monte Cristo sandwich. It has freid egg, ham, and cheese! The service is always great. We never have to ask for our coffee or water to be refilled :) The owners and servers are very friendly and always remember us!
