Good Eats!, 12/8/2011
Reviewer: Caitlin from Santa Barbara, CA
I've gone here a few times and always left full and happy. The food is delicious! I especially love their chicken curry with noodles. The wait staff was very helpful and very attentive. I ordered a vietnamese coffee for the first time and our waiter was even kind enough to show me how to prepare it so it would be just right. Excellent service with a smile. We will keep coming back for more!

Great food. The egg rolls are a bit over cooked for me though. Service sucks!

ADDICTED to this place!, 2/22/2011

I've been a local for 3 years, and this is the only restaurant I have consistently visited! Food is always fresh and hot, and to-go orders are ridiculously fast. Golden Curry with Rice Noodles = the BEST!

Wont go back!, 10/17/2010

I recently ordered take-out from Saigon on Milpas. Order was burned (egg rolls) and all the condiments were missing. I had already returned to the office when I discovered the mis-hap and called them immediatly to convey the error. I asked to speak to the manage and the young man said she was not there today...when she was just there not 5 mintues before. I wrote a letter expressing my dismay and still no response. This is the second mistake in a year from them. They have lost a good customer!

Good Food, 5/11/2010
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
Food here is good, as was said they have pictures on the menus (also at the Five Points one so must be at all of them) to help you order unlike some other places in town. Maybe more of a restaurant for Non Vietnamese, not sure, I see a lot of Vietnamese at the ones in Goleta(maybe from UCSB?) but not in these so could be. A good place to go, server was nice, cashier a bit lost.

The food is very expensive, also they give very less food than before. They should think about the food quality and give a lower price, it is not keeping opening restuarants. terrible and expensive food, my friends and I wont go there anymore.

The Green Papaya Salad is wonderful, 9/6/2009
Reviewer: Ondine from Santa Barbara, CA
I loved the menu with photos (it made explaining lunch to a six year old very easy) and the large vegetarian selection. I had the huge green papaya salad with tofu and my companion had the crispy noodles with greens and tofu and a very good traditional lemonade (not from a mix!.) I must say I enjoyed both meals! Service was fast and not intrusive. Our server did disappear after he brought our meal. I went to the counter for a drink refill and the young woman did seem genuinely apologetic and even apologized again when she brought the bill. I am looking forward to trying the other Saigon In and Out on Upper State when it opens.

Some of the best food in Santa Barbara, 8/17/2009
Reviewer: Kim from Santa Barbara, CA
The food here is consistantly amazing. Not only is this the best Viatnamese restaurant in SB, but also some of the best food in general. Always casual, it's a great place to eat in or take out. The staff is always friendly and the service is always fast, especially the take out which usually takes 5 minutes. Overall, this place is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone.

Epic food, poor service but it kinda makes the place special, 5/12/2009
Reviewer: Eric Greenspan from Santa Barbara, CA
I love this place. Our family eats here 2 times a week. The service is funny in that they are kinda clueless, but it works. It kinda adds to the ambiance. I can't get enough and I hear two new ones are coming: 5 Points and Haley. I can have my #34a 4x a day!

Real pho has beef parts in it, 4/22/2009
Reviewer: Annie from Santa Barbara, CA
When I called to order take out without looking at a menu, I asked for their regular pho bowl with the works: rare beef, cooked beef, beef tendon, beef tripe...they informed me they don't have tendon or tripe. I was immediately skeptical. What kind of pho place doesn't even have tendon or tripe anywhere in the restaurant? Not a real pho place! I was skeptical but gave it a try. I was right, the pho was ok but it didn't really taste like pho. It tasted pretty bland, mediocre at best, like it was just some beef stock. So it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't pho soup.

Not to denigrate someone's opinion, but..., 2/14/2009
Reviewer: Josh from Santa Barbara, CA
Not to denigrate someone's opinion, but the review below by "Chris" from here in SB has me rather surprised... The food has been consistently good every visit (although, granted, I usually try things other than the Pho) and I've never had problems with their service... The lack of detail on the review mentioned previously as well as the rock-bottom review scores leave me mystified as to what restaurant the reviewer actually ate at. That said, I'll be going by in the next few days to make sure their food and service hasn't dramatically declined since my last meal here about two weeks ago.

This is not real Vietnamese food, 2/13/2009
Reviewer: Chris from Santa Barbara, CA
If you've ever eaten authentic Vietnamese food, you'll understand why this place is terrible. Their food barely holds me over until I have time to go to another city and have a real bowl of Pho. Pho should have a deeply flavored, clean broth. Their broth has no flavor to it. Tastes pretty much like they opened up a few cans of broth from the store. I would highly recommend going elsewhere if you want quality Vietnamese food.

Possibly the best Pho and Vietnamese restaurant in town., 12/29/2008
Reviewer: john from Santa Barbara, CA
Saigon In & Out (Milpas location) is probably the best Pho/Vietnamese restaurant in town. Small, simple and quaint. The service is good and the food is very clean and very good. I've eaten at all the Pho places in town and Saigon In & Out will get my vote AGAIN for SB Best Pho in Town (Santa Barbara). I get the #23 Pho which has meat in it and an order of spring rolls (comes along with a great sauce too). Saigon In & Out doesn't use intestines, cartilage or tendons in their Pho. It is real broth, clean pieces of meat and fresh vegetables with everything. Hands down best place for Pho in town. I just learned they have a restaurant opened on State Street now, whic is probably just as good if they kept the ingredients and methods the same as the original location.

Excellent Vietnamese Food on the South Coast, 12/24/2008
Reviewer: Laura Kranzler from Santa Barbara, CA
My husband & I love Saigon In & Out, especially on rainy days. We ususally order the Veggie Egg Rolls, Chicken Pho #26, & Chicken Curry w/Rice Noodle #30 - all are super tasty. The food is always fresh & hot. The service is always consistent. The servers are polite & efficient without being obtrusive. The food is authentic & just as good as Little Saigon in Orange County. If you love Vietnamese food you will not be disappointed.

My boyfriend recently introduced me to Saigon and I've been back 4 times in the last 10 days! We usually order to go, but the second we walk in someone rushes out to see us. They are so friendly. We have ordered the Pho (noodle soup) every time, changing the ingredients each time. It is sooo delicious! It only takes a few minutes for them to bring it out and we're on our way. I'll keep coming back!

I have never had Vietnamese before this visit and all I can say is I'm a huge fan now. Living in SB for 22 years, you get tired of the same old thing over and over and over. Fresh, tasty, healthy, quality...this place has it all. If you haven't tried Saigon, consider it the next time you are heading to "our" favorite Thai restaurant. Its a nice change. Of course, you will crave Thai too, so make sure to do one on Sunday night and the other during the week.

I tried this place based on the reviews. It was delicious! I've returned more than once now. Service is pretty good also. Try the spring rolls with the peanut sauce. The golden egg rolls come with fresh veggies. Only complaint i have is the tiny parking located in the rear of the restaurant. They've earned my business!

Reviewer: Aimee from Goleta, CA
This restaurant serves the best Vietnamese food I've ever tasted. In fact, I think Saigon In and Out may be my favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara - and all at such a steal! The worst part about dining here is trying to decide what to order, because everything is top-notch. I usually get the vegetarian egg rolls and either the curry noodles with chicken or the shrimp pho. (My vegetarian friends also love this place because there are so many veg-friendly menu options.) Try the iced Vietnamese coffee - it's delicious. The servers are friendly, cheerful, and accommodating. Can't wait to try the new State St. location!

Since I discovered Saigon approx 1 1/2 months ago, I have: (a)lost 10 lbs, (b)enjoyed their wonderful, flavorful, aromatic, food a min of 2 times a week, (c) addicted many many of my friends. Every dish I've sampled has been amazing, the prices are extremely reasonable, the food has always been the perfect temp, the wait staff have always served me in record time, and I've never lacked for a thing at my table. If this place delivered, I'd happily eat nothing else.

Wow! This place is a real "sleeper". Unbelievably big portions of the most delicious Vietnamese food ever at unbelievably low prices. I live in Dallas where there is a very large Vietnamese community. I can tell you this, the food at "Saigon In and Out" is superior to any of the Vietnamese restaurants in my home area. Lucky for me, my girlfriend lives in the neighborhood.

I just found this little place over on Milpas recently and LOVE IT! The food is authentic, delicious, cheap and healthy. The atmosphere is fun, simple (but the air conditioning always seems to be on low). I like the pho, but LOVE the vermicelli bowls with the chopped egg rolls over noodles, citrus/spicy sauce and vegetables. Can't wait to go back!!

We go to this Vietnamese restaurant all the time. Having a Vietnamese mother and large makes it easy to judge this type of food, but believe me, this is some of the best pho - best broth we've ever tried. Highly recommended.

We've been to Saigon 3 times now since finding it a month or so ago, once for take out and twice to eat in. The spring rolls are heaven, big and fat with lots of cilantro & shrimp. #58 which is crispy tofu and crispy rice noodles is amazingly good and the curries are wonderful too. Some dishes may be a little bland, but there are several sauces on the tables to solve that problem. It's a great bargain with low prices. We'll go back often.

The BEST Vietnamese food in SB., 9/9/2007

Amazingly good vietnamese. The best spring rolls I've had on this continent, and some truly remarkable fish curry. Service was courteous but not intrusive and the food arrived at a good pace.

I was blown away by this place - it's probably the best Southeast Asian food I've had in Santa Barbara, definitely the best Vietnamese. The pho is delicious, and the ingredients are all so fresh and healthy. My husband's curry noodles were amazing, too. Spring rolls, a "young coconut," a tasty Vietnamese iced coffee, and our two dishes came to only $27. I'll definitely be back!

First time but surely not my last!, 7/9/2007
Reviewer: Wendy from Santa Barbara, CA
My first impression was the immaculate, bright, & tidy state of the restaurant. This was my first time at a Vietnamese restaurant so I had the polite and efficient server help me choose from the menu. I ordered the #2 spring rolls -- they came quickly and were obviously made to order. The brown/peanut (?) sauce it came with was a bit dissapointing but the spicy chili sauces on the table made it delicious. My entree, the #34, was giant and delicious. The meal was VERY healthy (& I am super picky about this) and I appreciated the shredded white meat chicken vs. fatty chunks of random meat that many restaurants use. If you're wondering about the 4 stars vs. 5 rating -- I think a place must really WOW me to deserve my highest rating. Overall, the service was great and speedy and my meal was tasty and left me satisfied -- reasonable prices, too!

I am so glad to finnly see a few veitnamese resturants. my art teacher said i must try it. I have only experenced the flavors of vietnam whene is was at a cooking classe. I have always hoped i would get the chance to have it again, so I rused down to this littel veinamese resturant. I had the spring rolls, which where exellant. the pho is a light and tastly meal, however you cant pass-up the curry dishes. If you have the spirit of the adventure, try the exotic desserts in the display case, they are very diffrent from the typical American appel pie, but they are so good, the service is quick and freindly. now I go once a week.

My honey and I go to Saigon at least once a week... and we don't eat out much! The service is incredible (they holler "hello" before you are even in the door) and friendly, the food arrives quickly, and it is always exceptional. It is one of those places that feels like a well-kept secret...

Reviewer: KRN GRL from VAFB, CA
I thought the service was fine because any asian restaurant you go to don't have that exceptionally best service compared to American restaurants. I am a PHO lover! I drive to Santa Barbara just to eat pho. The Pho is good here but they dont give you enough noodles. So I always have to order extra noodles. They need to consider giving more noodles. But all in all everythings good there. Including their spring rolls.

We'd been planning on visiting this restaurant for quite some time, as we've been to every other Vietnamese restaurant in town. We found the parking to be good, the restaurant to have a nice ambiance, the food excellent and the service, as well. The only complaint that I have about the pho that we ordered is that the meat portions were a little less than we'd have preferred. The quality of the food was wonderful, however, and the price is very nice - $27 for two and we left very full. I suggest the coconut drinks, the spring rolls, the charbroiled pork and eggroll pho and the chicken curry with rice vermicelli. Be sure you ask if the dish includes broth or not (i accidentally ordered without but it was only $1 extra for a decent portion). We will DEFINITELY be going back!!

The food here totally busted my earlier notions of Vietnamese food. It's light yet flavorful and also healthy. The combination of flavors are unexpected yet turns out really well. They use fresh ingredients and don't drench their food in grease. Now that I'm back on the east coast, I'm missing Vietnamese food terribly. The service was rather good compared to some other more popular restaurants in Santa Barbara.

The food was really good. I especially liked their Pho. However, they really need to work on their service. It's terrible. So i rate them 4.5 for their food, but 1.5 for servcice. But i still go back every now and then because they really do have great food. However, if their service were to match up to their food, i would definitely frequent this restaurant more often.

MY friends and I love pho and we decided to try the Saigon In and Out last week. From our entrance to exit of the restaurant it took over 1 hour! The restaurant was not busy and we all got pho (which takes no time at all to prepare). The lemonade was horrible and there is no air conditioning so don't go on a hot day. We had to ask repeatedly for refills, extra dishes, place settings, etc. The food was good but no Santa Anna. Maybe you'll have better luck with the service but who knows.

The Best Viet in Town!, 4/15/2006
Reviewer: Barnabas from Santa Barbara
I have dined here 3 times in 2 weeks! By far the best viet restuarant in Santa Barbara County. Just been to Saigon Noodle house, its pho has too much MSG, the vermicilli was cold and bland. Here at In and out, the food was hot, tasty and well prepared. The only reason I am writting this review, is because I have no idea, how this viet restaurant is not rated the best in town! Also, the prices here are very reasonable.

This IS the best Pho in Santa Barbara, 3/19/2006
Reviewer: pho junkie from santa barbara, CA
First, the service and food is very good. I've had the other Pho places in town and they do not have true beef stock for their soup. This place does! The food is reasonably priced and great quality, real vietnamese chef in the back so i don't know how you can't say it's not authentic! The meat is clean, not fatty and is very tender. The one thing that has me going back all the time is the consistency. You know if you had something before, it's going to be the same. The vietnamese husband and wife who own the place are really nice as is the service. Really friendly. They also had sandwiches and other deserts, i recommend the Lychees, stay away from the rest. Best Pho in Santa Barbara, in comparison to Saigon Noodle House and New China. New China has a lot of good food in it's own but Saigon Noodle House was a real disappointment.

What do you expect...we're in Santa Barbara, not LA/SJ, 12/1/2005
Reviewer: P.Do from Santa Barbara, CA
Given that this town is so partial to Sushi or Italian, it's nice to see some Vietnamese restaurants in town. I've eaten at Saigon In & Out three times now. The overall experience was ok to good. Service on all occasions was lacking though. Definitely order everything all at once since the wait staff/owner don't seem to come back. Restaurants I've visited in LA or San Jose are much more authentic in flavoring and proportions. Figure $10-$12 per head for lunch. Two issues: 1) limited parking is strange and difficult since it's in a residential apartment lot behind the restaurant; 2) if you order a soda, you get a single vending machine can...and it'll cost you more than 50 cents. No refills.

Didn't know this place existed until this past month. I've had to deal with 'Saigon Noodle house', New China, and the Hollister twins for the past two years.. and by far this place offers the most authentic line of Vietnamese dishes. Their Pho is similar to the Pho Hoa line in LA/San Diego areas, with clear and tasty broth but i found it lacking in the portion department, which isn't always a most vietnamese dishes are smaller in portion. A must to try out are their $3.75 it can't be beat. My girlfriend, being a vegetarian, found it very veggi-friendly as well. As noted below, they are a little understaff and seems to be run by a vietnamese family.

This place has the best eggrolls ive ever eaten. They are the 7.95 version (they have 2 or 3 different kinds) and the Pho is pretty much comparable to the other 2 places I've had Pho in SB (that is to say they are all good) The service however... the waitstaff doesnt seem to make many trips around the tables to ask if you need anything. Getting a refill on water is a task, im tempted to just bring my own. I wonder if they have a corkage fee for Dasani? There are a few too many tables packed in the right hand side and parknig is kind of a trick too. I like this place best for lunch as the service is better and parking easier.

I have been to all the local pho restaurants around Santa Barbara, "Saigon In and Out" is by far the best of the bunch. There soup base is very fresh and full of aroma. The quality of the food is almost comparable to L.A. pho restaurants, almost but not quite. Los Angeles still have the best pho restaurants, but if you're a local looking for some good pho, then "Saigon In and Out" will do you well. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our visit there and can't wait for our incoming visits.

Have had everything on the menu at least twice since this restaurant opened a few months ago. Even had food catered to my my high school classroom and they savored the food, and visited themselves with friends or parents later. The curry is not like Thai or Indian curry + all the dishes have a freshness. Don't have the salted plum beverage - most people wouldn't like it. Only criticism is the menu doesn't change. Well worth a visit. We need to support such good food here.

The place is clean and the food is actually good but they were short staffed. A few minutes after we got there, the place filled up and there was a table of 15 but they always made eye contact, super attentive, came by and asked if everything was ok. Didn't leave there with an MSG coated tongue either. We had Pho, vermicelli combo and spring rolls (there was something missing in it). I like this place, going back soon to try out their other dishes.
