Okay but not satisfied, 2/7/2012

I went on a sunday morning with my wife and we had to wait 30 min just for the waitress to bring us our drinks. After that we waited another 30 mins to get our food. Then another 30 mins to get our bill , it seemed like we were in there forever! I think they should hire more waitresses when it gets really busy ! ! ! The waitress wasnt even pretty and she had a little bit of additude.

May be they were having a bad day, 12/26/2011

We went here for lunch because we previously ate here and had great food and service. But today was the day after Christmas and we were told, after waiting around for 15 min w/o drink service, that they had a staffing problem. In short, it took over an hour and a 1/4 to finally get our food. This was after being told serveral times that what we originally ordered was not available and threats to leave if the food was not ready soon. All we got for our trouble was repeated promises that the food was "coming right up," $1.79 off the bill and an apology. We would have appreciated the staff being more honest and even telling us to come back another day (some thing that was in fact suggested to them at one point).

Overcharging For Drinks., 8/17/2011

My sister and came to TonyRays on the Thursday during Fiesta and everytime we ordered a drink from a waitress they would charge us $1 more than what the price was supposed to be. We didn't catch it the first time they did it, but the second time we caught it the waitress seemed to be shocked. I guess they were trying to make more in tips by trying to rip off customers!

The more the merrier!, 8/10/2011

I love the atmosphere and the food, espically the older man, who does the taking orders, bringing drinks, bringing food, and enjoying what he does, and takes care of the customers. I have to say that on Fiesta's when you know it's going to be busy, they should of had more workers on staff. I went on lunch time to eat,but left only with a temptation to eat, because they took awhile. We had to wait 15 mins to get our drinks, and by the time the waiter came to take our orders we had to ask for the bill. I hope that they get more staff on big events that take place in SB. I always come back, I would just hate to see a good place get bad reviews.

Chips were so much yummier than Azteca!, 7/16/2011

We found this little restaurant nestled in Santa Barbara along our roadtrip with our boys only due to Tony Rays no longer takes them and there has been some confusion with removing them from but I spoke with the owner and he honored 15% discount. Food was great and I really could have shared a meal with one of my boys. alot of food! And those chips were the tastiest - even tastier than On the Border. A must stop along one's joureny through California.

Response to a " Lone Server on Solstice" , 6/28/2011
Reviewer: TonyRay from Santa Barbara, CA
YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!! You must have been at the wrong place! However, TonyRay's apologizes for what you perceived to be the "Lone Server" and the "too cool to help" family members of the owner. You must have not noticed the two other staff members who were busy with the full house of tables that flowed in from the Solstice festivities. Furthermore, we just don't let anyone, including family members, take the floor - only trained employees.

Lone Server on Solstice No Help from Owners Family, 6/28/2011
Reviewer: Robin from Santa Barbara, CA
You hire a band, yet only have one server/bartender/busser working - the same overworked elder man who was doing his best but it was impossible. We walked in and sat ourselves, there were only 3 other tables, after 10 mins or so we were served chips and salsa and ordered drinks. Drinks came 5-7 mins later and so did the next 5-6 tables at once. Problem - there were 4 young adults who were clearly owners family members but rather than jump in and help they stood off to the side peering at all the people looking too "cool" to help. After 30 mins, we went to the bar, paid for the drinks and left. I won't go back b/c I didn't like how owners family treated their staff.

Great experience, 5/17/2011

Went for the first time last night, and we were the only ones there around 7:30 on a Monday night. The mural inside is fantastic, and our waiter was very friendly and attentive. I never expected to see this on their menu, but got an appetizer of yam fries and they were spectacular! Enchiladas with rice & beans for me and my friend couldn't decide between the chile verde and the chile relleno (the waiter's favorites too, he said), so he brought her some of each. Our entrees were quite good, but I have to admit I am still thinking about those yam fries, and only $2.95 for a good-sized portion. I will be back, and look forward to enjoying the patio on a warmer evening.

excellent food and ser vice with a smile, 5/12/2011

I love the service everyone is very friendly and the food the best mexican food I have ever tasted. I enjoy the different music they have. Something different everyday so is not boring... hearing the same all the time, everytime I gone there I spend more time than expected, due to the nice atmosphere.

One of the best Patios in SB , 5/11/2011

Came for lunch with friends because it was a beautiful day in SB and we wanted to enjoy the awesome patio at Tony Ray's. I had been a big fan of Cazadores, who occupied the space previously, and I was so happy to find another Mexican Restaurant had opened in this space. Our server was so great, friendly, funny, and attentive! Great Guacomole - very fresh, I had the Chile Relleno - awesome! Be sure to ask for "special" margaritas "mexican style" made with real lime juice - fantastic! Tony Ray's I'll be back!

good Mexican plus, 1/28/2011
Reviewer: Chris C. from Santa Barbara, CA
TonyRay's offers delicious Mexican food and a variety of dishes from other traditions, as well. Outstanding chile relleno and taquitos. Service was friendly and attentive. Food is freshly prepared, so allow a little time. Another big plus is their online 2-for-1 coupon to get people to visit them in De la Guerra Plaza. Outdoor patio and indoor seating.
