Finally local & organic on campus

Great lunch spot

Is it possible that one of the best lunch spots in the Santa Barbara area is in the UCSB UCEN food court? It is. Considering the quality of the food (meat from Shalhoob downtown; chicken is free-range; good quality fish), the price (most of the menu < $7), and the eco-friendliness (local, sustainable), this place is a great addition to UCSB and SB. It's worth the trip even if you're not a UCSB dweller. Over a year later, I'm still surprised the university made such a good decision in bringing them onto campus.

Recently disappointed

Food is good but inconsistent. I have ordered the veggie burger several times, but recently it has been served cold. Tasted like it was cooked in the morning and thrown on a cold, crusty bun with cold, unmelted cheese. Food came very fast, but too fast to have been cooked when ordered. I would rather wait for a warm burger than have a cold burger served fast. Service is GREAT and I have had a good meal here, but not recently for some reason. Very stoked on the idea of everything being compostable and sourced from local, organic farms. However, if food is not prepared properly, it does this movement more harm than good.

When I heard an organic eco-conscious type place was opening in the UCen, I assumed it would be an idealistic hippie dream, either a veggie burger wasteland or an outrageous expense. I was wrong. This place has tasty food at very reasonable prices. Their menu is currently quite small -- basically they have four sandwiches, salad, and two kinds of chili -- but I gather they're going to gradually expand it as things progress. Everything I've tried has been not just okay but surprisingly good. The chili especially is a good deal: very tasty and only $3.25 (or $4 in a bread bowl).
