If you order your shrimp or fish fried, it comes out a light golden brown and not greasy which leads me to believe that they change their frying oil more frequently then other restaurants. the batter is also very light.

Can't believe they're still serving the scoop of brown rice
Reviewer: Barbara from Santa Barbara, CA
Tried Nikka when they first opened a few years ago. Back then, the fish was great and the sides were horrible. After reading so many great reviews, went back last night. Still: good, fresh fish, horrible sides. Please, Nikka, get rid of the cafeteria-like scoop of tasteless brown rice and the frozen vegetable sides. The two people staffing the front had no idea about anything on the menu; could only tell us what the most popular items were. They did tell us they both had been on the job only a few days--but Nikka, why would you put two newbies out front together for dinner service? Seriously, they did not know the answer to a single question we asked. Service was prompt, I'll give them that. I don't jump to the internet to write bad reviews, because I have chefs in my family, I know how hard kitchen work is, and I hate to trash places. But, for the prices Nikka charges, there is no excuse for such lameness. It does not appear that they have a kitchen capable of putting out a full nice meal - go there for the excellent fish, but don't expect more.

The Best Seafood Restaurant in SB Hands Down!
Reviewer: Joy from Santa Barbara, CA
Fresh, delicious, outstanding seafood! You can order it fresh right from the case! The price is reasonable, too! Plenty of delicious dishes to order from. In fact, it's really hard to decide with so many great choices. If you have been there before you will want to keep ordering the same item because it was so good! But try another's all good! If you are looking for ambience this isn't your place...if you are looking for great seafood sit down and enjoy! Wish they had a place in downtown SB because I just don't make the drive out there often enough. DO GO!

What a wonderful surprise ! Stopped in on my busy day and found a wonderful place to eat. Everyone was so friendly and glad I was there. Nice outside patio for eating. Halfway between fast food (order at the counter) and regular sit down (they bring the food to you). The fish tacos were bulging with goodies and Tasty. Comes with salad. Delicious and reasonably priced. Can't wait to bring my husband for Paella!

Nikka Fish Grill

My review of Nikka Fish Grill and Market Atmosphere: Located in a busy stripmall, it has a outdoor seating area and inside dining area. Inside the menu is written on large chalkboards. It was a bit confusing as there are several chalkboads above the register and then several aside the line to order which are for the specials of the day. Comfortable wooden tables/chairs. We sat outside and the small suggestion I have for the owner/manager is to put slide disks under the chairs so it doesn't sound like nails on chalkboards when people move their chairs. Service: You order at the register and seat yourself. The place was packed when we got there on thursday noon. The waitress at the register was very proficient at taking our order. We did have quite a wait for the food, but we could see they were understaffed that day: two people were running the entire floor: from taking orders, delivering food to attending to patrons. Mr. Nikka: these two staff should get a bonus! They were efficient, friendly and accommodating. Food/drink: We ordered two ahi tacos and a side salad, clam chowder and fried scallops. I've never had fried scallops man was I missing out! Crispy and light but succulent meat too. The tacos were tasty and filling: large chunks of fish, a wonderful chipotle sauce. I had the sesame dressing with the salad which was the perfect compliment. I didn't care for the chowder as it was too thick and goopy, but my companion enjoyed it. Summary: I think this is the first 5 star review I've given for food and service. While I don't usually care of dining in a stripmall, the food is so outstanding I overlook this aspect. The staff were proficient, the food was tasty and satisfying and a menu that has a variety of interesting options. I heard they opened a locale in Camarillo which I immediately told my sister as she lives there. I can't wait to go back.

Best fish in town!

I went to Nikka for the first time this past week and was blown away! What a hidden gem. My mother was in town from Colorado and wanted to go out for a great fish dinner and luckily, I found this place. My mother was so pleased with her Link Cod (it was super tender, moist, and cooked to perfection), and I more than enjoyed my bowl of clams, mussels, and fish in a very tasty broth. All the staff were super friendly and went out of their way to answer all the questions we had…and we had a lot. The menu you will find online is about a third of what they offer. Their daily specials are amazing. If you want great seafood in a relaxed environment (we ate outside on the patio), this is the place. Before flying back to Colorado, my mother bought $100 in gift certificates to Nikka and gave them to me so that I can go back again, and again, and again...

We have been here twice recently to pick-up salmon and yellowtail to make our own sushi. The fish was incredibly fresh...melt-in-your-mouth fresh and perfect for making our own sushi! The owner and employees went out of their way to help us; even when they were very busy with restaurant customers, they took time to get the cuts of fish that we needed and packed it with ice so they would stay fresh for our drive back to Santa Ynez. We look forward to making a lot more sushi with their delicious sashimi-grade fish and appreciate their fantastic customer service.

Great. Healthy Food. Reasonable Prices

Nikka has become my go-to lunch place in Goleta. Delicious healthy food on the menu and always interesting specials. I've been many times, but I still haven't been able to find a favorite; I like everything I've had. So I have to keep going back to try more things. Yum!

Yummy, great prices and portions

Had dinner a few days ago: Fresh oysters raw for appetizer. They wanted to cook them, we asked if they'd serve raw, and they did on a nice plate of crushed ice with lemon. Sweet meat and very good sizes. I had mixed fried bits with fries and the tempura-type batter was nice and light for $13. Husband had grilled halibut with fries ($13), the portion of halibut was on the reasonable side of small. With brown rice and a salad it would have been a true "healthy" plate. Friend had the ahi burger and it was HUGE, a huge slab of ahi, he enjoyed it, his wife had the steamed mussels ($8). Oh my goodness, I've never had such a light flavor and mussels done to perfection. A light sauce of white wine, little garlic and cilantro. Very enjoyable, we all thought the mussels were the star of all 4 dinners. Prices so reasonable too, we've found a new go-to place for great flavors that doesn't dent the wallet.

Favorite fish shop
Reviewer: Charlotte from Goleta
This is my favorite fish shop in the city....Goleta! The fish is always fresh, some nice local catches, a few Sushi grade fish and some lovely smoked Salmon all reasonably priced. Great shrimp, oysters, mussels and clams as well. The super nice guy behind the counter will fabricate, remove bones and pack your order up on ice for you, even give you cooking! Pinch me!
