A nice little place in Goleta, 3/22/2015

I had a very nice experience at XO. I ordered a strawberry muffin and a vanilla chai. Apparently they have two types of chia: vanilla and maple. The muffin was still warm from being fresh baked, and the girls behind the counter were very kind and helpful. I don't know what these other people are complaining about because everyone I saw there (it was packed) seemed to be enjoying themselves! I will definitely be back!

I live near Old Town and was glad to hear that a new morning cafe had opened. Been here four times. First, I tried their Himalayan Salt Chocolate Chip cookie. Not bad, but not great either. Next time I picked up the banana chocolate chip muffin and a cup of coffee on the way to work. The muffin was fresh, but a tad over baked. The coffee was on the weak side. Next time I dropped in before work for the same banana cc muffin. This time it seemed very stale like it was at least a day old. So now I don't know what to think about their pastries. My last, and likely final, visit I tried a sit down breakfast meal of scrambled eggs and toast, with a coffee. The eggs were brown tinged as if they were cooked in old grease and lacked any flavor. Not very impressive for close to $8. To add insult to injury, they actually charged me an extra $1 to refill the small ceramic coffee mug. Simply disappointed that this place is expensive and of poor quality. By the way their tea selection is weak. Just tea bags, no loose teas at all; which is quite disappointing to say the least. Not sure why on earth they would call themselves a tea bar. Oh well, looks like I'll still have to drive to either Anna's or Renauld's for quality breakfast baked goods as well making my own scrambles at home.

Weak Chai, go for the pastries, 1/17/2013

Can't speak for the coffee but the chai was of the weak starbucks flavor(zizzo's is the best I've found in Goleta) and I don't recommend. The winner was the pastries, apparently made fresh there. The sausage roll was good as was the pumpkin muffin. Nice decor in there and I believe they have wifi. Sage & Onion the same owners next door and they share the kitchen. Server was adequate. A new place to try and this and Sage are a nice Goleta addition.
