Cheated by the Nugget for the last time, 3/28/2016

The failure to give back any coins in change has apparently been extended to the downtown Nugget from the Goleta site. When I reviewed this restaurant in August 2015, I was focusing on the excellent food and nothing else. I took the Goleta Nugget to task on more than one occasion for not giving coins in change. If your bill was $17.75, you'd only receive two $1 bills back if you gave them a $20. The Goleta manager actually lied to me about this practice, saying that it would never happen--even though it had happened to me before and then happened again. Today at the downtown Nugget my bill was $10.26. I paid with a $20 bill and received only $9 in change. They stole 74˘, which represents nearly 10% of the entire check. The server was apologetic but could offer no explanation. I could almost understand the thievery if it rounded off the other way as well--they'd keep it if it was under 50˘ and the customer would get a dollar if it was over 50˘--but it doesn't work that way. If there is ANY pocket change at all, the Nugget gets to keep it. To repeat, this is THIEVERY. The Nugget is STEALING from cash-paying customers, whom they know either won't check their change or won't put up a fuss over "a few cents." Unfortunately, these "few cents" mount up over the course of a day or a week or a year, and the losers are the customers. I really like(d) the Nugget, but I cannot and will not patronize a business that steals from me. I would really like to hear how they justify this.

not exactly the same..., 8/12/2015

As the summerland venue. Close, but there are various differences on all sections of the menu. Some dishes are unique to each location. And, there is a [small] Santa Barbara tax. Example: $9.95 for the Goldminer in SB, $9.50 at the original, but not on all dishes. It's also easy to compare the menus side-by-side on line. But overall, EXCELLENT.

Yay—decent hamburgers downtown!, 8/7/2015

For decades, the Nugget has been serving delicious hamburgers and other accoutrements of tasty casual dining, first in Summerland, then at their second location on Calle Real in Goleta. Visitors to the new Nugget site in the first block of W. Victoria Street will happily discover that the menu is identical to the other two locations. And—surprise!—the prices are also the same. I just assumed that since the new site is in a prime downtown location, menu items would no doubt be a couple of bucks higher. They aren’t! You can still get the Gold Miner’s Standard hamburger and fries for under 10 bucks. Yahoo!! The food has that uniquely Nugget taste, the bar drinks aren’t weak, and the servers are friendly. It doesn’t get much better than that.
