First and last time I eat here.Bad food (cold and tasteless) and bad attitude (asked for a different dish and was refused). If you want the real deal in Mexican food in Santa Barbara try La Super Rica. Better food and better prices. I went to UCSB so I know.

awesome tacos!, 6/30/2005

OK, nothing special, 6/6/2005

Food is often warmed up in the microwave, and hygene is very questionable. The atmosphere is good, and also the service is very friendly. But I am afraid that is just not enough for a place called restaurant. In my opinion a restaurant should not even have a microwave, and hygene must be at its top... not here.

best mex in SB, 12/14/2004

I hesitated to write this review, as i want to make sure i can get a table when i come in... but amazing food deserves props. You really won´t find better mexican in SB. (The Napoleon will blow your mind.) Superica isn´t even in the same sphere. From the warm, fresh, perfectly salted chips to the homemade salsa and sauces... it´s the BEST! The fact that it´s also reasonably priced is just a bonus.

This is the truly the best Mexican food in town--for lunch-- as I have found dinner (service) to be lacking. They need to add a bar so I can enjoy a margarita!

Best Mexican Restaurant in town, 10/19/2004

So far.... beats Super rica any day hands down Especially for vegetarian food - awesome food, great price

My husband and I ate dinner here on our Wedding Day with 6 friends and had a great meal and a great time celebrating our Wedding Day. We went back another time and they gave us a menu to remember our special day.

One of the Best Mexican Choices in SB, 7/18/2004

Perhaps I am shooting myself in the foot for sharing this secret but this is one of the best mexican restaurants in the area (sorry, I was never impressed by superica) The food and service are excellent and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Flip your menu over to see a lovely picture of Julian, the son of the owners and obviously, the namesake of the restaurant.

Taste, Quality, Service--Excellent!, 7/16/2004

We loved the down home atmosphere--all brought about by the lovely owner, Esperanza (Hope): a marvelous, hard working senora who makes sure you get what you came for--great mexican food. Coming from the barrio area of San Diego, we tend to compare mexican food to what we were brought up on. Julian´s is equal to any here. It´s taste, presentation and succulent smells draw you right into the plate. We discovered Julian´s on-line while researching La Super Rica´s reviews. Some reviews said go to Julian´s instead of Rica´s. Being adventurous and eaters who try to avoid in-crowds and waits, along with being avid walkers, we decided to walk the mile from State Street down Haley to Milpas--(Driving or taking a cab is okay--though you burn less calories). There it was, right around the corner. The next morning, we walked back to this little hideaway to get one last feast before departing S.B. The walk was well worth every step of the mile there and the mile back.

One of the Best!, 12/30/2002

I have lived in Santa Barbara all my life and have enjoyed all its many wonderful Mexican Restaurants but I have to say this is one of the best! The food is wonderful and inexpensive and the service was great. I highly recommend if you really love authentic Mexican food.

Excellent food, very reasonable prices, 12/19/2001

The atmosphere is authentic and cozy. The fact that you can see into the kitchen makes it feel home-made. The food is excellent, even compared to the large number of good of mexican restaurants in Santa Barbara. The chips and salsa are some of the best in town. $8 and under for great meal.
