Eaten there countless times; am going to sorely miss it!!!!!, 12/2/2014
Reviewer: Anne from Goleta, CA
Over the years, I have eaten at Baja Grill many, many times with family and friends and was never disappointed by the food, the service, or the salsa bar. I would say we ate there at least 5 times a month, and ordered a variety of things. I can't tell you how much we are going to miss the wonderful food and the great prices. It was truly a place that we looked forward to going to, and we made many fond memories there. I almost feel as if my teen and pre-teen grew up there! If you were the owner and are reading this, please consider re-opening somewhere in Goleta or in Santa Barbara!

Bad service!, 8/21/2013
Reviewer: Sara from Santa Barbara, CA
I walked in there for the first time today, right as we walked in we got bad service. The girl in the cashier (blond hair with glasses) said it was closed when it wasnt closing time. The guy in the back said it was ok to order. The girl comes back and asks in a rude manner "What are you going to get?" Being my first time i needed a couple minutes to decide. She seemed to be in a hurry so we decided to leave. Never ate there and definitely wont go back.

Raised prices and changed menu, 1/24/2012

Probably won't be coming as often as they raised their prices and took my favorite salad off the menu. Still good food though

Tacos!, 10/20/2011
Reviewer: Melodie from Goleta, CA
I love the 2.50 tacos here! This is also one of the only places that serves avocado salsa, which is so delicious. A great place for a quick bite to eat while going to farmer's market.

This was our favorite... , 9/4/2011

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Goleta area, but recently when I've gone in they have gotten my order wrong. The menu is still good but it seems that they are unable to carry it out well now. I think they need to learn how to take orders better for it to once again be a great restaurant.

Inedible burrito: tasteless gristle, 7/22/2011
Reviewer: Greg from Santa Barbara, CA
We used to like New Baja Grill, but this is the second time we've gotten a Rosarito burrito that was just inedible. First of all, the steak was half gristle, I was literally picking every other piece out of my mouth. Then, the meat was strangely tasteless, the rice had no flavor, and the burrito was just a soggy, water mess. Literally couldn't finish it. I guess the only good thing was that they made the burrito in about 30 seconds.

Nice Surprise!, 7/9/2008

I remember going here awhile back and it was standard fare but I guess the "new" baja grill is definitly "new" and good! Food very good, quite possibly among the top Mexican food around. A little language troubles with taking orders but not too bad. Salsa bar was good. I am guessing mostly authentic cooking in a take out format is a win win for me. Makes taco bell look silly esp when you can get your food almost as quick. Very good. The mexican style drinks out is an excellent touch, try the orange whip!

Our Weekly Take Out, 3/27/2008
Reviewer: Diane from Goleta
Just about every week we go to Baja Grill and bring home the Arroz Con Pollo. It is really a nice salad, with some rice and grilled chicken on the side. They sprinkle a little cheese anound and top it with a scoop of guacamole. All this with a great cilantro dressing. We like the dressing so much we ask them to hold the salsa. It is a great meal. Other things are good too, but we really like this dish.

always consistent & good!, 11/30/2007

A Goleta BEST, 6/26/2007
Reviewer: Nicole from Goleta, CA
Its quick so it's perfect to run in and pick up a delicious lunch and their nachos are to DIE for. The pricing is fair and the atmosphere is wondrful. Its a fun place to sit and eat lunch with fast and friendly service and excellent food. Anyone who is taking a trip to Goleta should really pick up a burrito or something here.

Best (fast) food in the area; best Mexican in Goleta?, 3/22/2007
Reviewer: Holden from Goleta
There might be a place or two tucked away that I don't know about in more of the downtown area, but this is the best Mexican food I have come across in Goleta proper (Mariscos on Haley St. in SB is unbeatable). It currently destroys any competition from IV or Goleta (Freebird's, El Sitio, Super Cuchas, Rosarito pale in comparison) or any of the other conveyor-belt burrito shops around. Man, I haven't had authentic chile colorado since living in the San Joaquin Valley (no shortage of Mexican food there). I haven't even tried out their full menu 'cause its so satisying just ordering that burrito, but other favorites are the Polla Asada Nachos and the Pescado fajitas. Easily beats out the surrounding competition, unless you're looking for a sit down full service restaurant. Also, the manager is very chill, very generous, he doesn't seem to forget a face, and he hooks it up for regulars (I tip to hedge my bets).

Best Horchata ever!, 1/31/2007
Reviewer: Justine from SB
I was shopping at Border's on my lunch hour and needed to pick up a quick bite to take back to work... my chicken burrito was decent (I have to admit I didn't get a chance to eat it until later in the afternoon, so it didn't get a fair shake) but the horchata was the best I've ever tasted, and I'm a bit of a connoisseur. Sometimes it's too watery, or too sweet, but this was perfect and gave just the hint of condensed milk. The service was friendly and efficient, and the decor was pleasant. And now that I know about their Taco Tuesdays, I have another reason to go back!

Only Vegan Burrito That Makes Me Happy, 8/23/2006
Reviewer: ash from santa barbara, CA
I am obsessed with Baja, mainly because Carlos is so cool and knows when I come in that my burrito is beans, rice, and guac, NO CHEESE he always reminds the cooks:) It's awesome to be able to eat delicious Mexi food and not forsake my vegan ways.

SERIOUSLY the BEST, 4/18/2006
Reviewer: Marco from UCSB
I love everything. I love the salsas they have such a great variety of them and they are all flavorful and/or hot. I love the Kids Chicken taco because they put cheese on it. I also love the nachos. I think UCSB students are starting to realize that this place rocks all the Mexican food places in IV and is way worth the short drive. Love it!

Best California Burrito in town, 4/16/2006
Reviewer: UCSB student from Santa Barbara, CA
This place became my favorite restaurant in the area after adding the California burrito to their menu. It's the best one you can find north of San Diego County as far as I know. And if you don't know what the California burrito is, you must not be from San Diego so try it.

A Treasure Too Many People Know Exists!!, 2/15/2005
Reviewer: Esteban from Goleta, CA
I came to Goleta in 1996 from Indio, CA. Back in the day the Camino Real Marketplace didnt exist as it was all dirt and sand. In 1998 (I believe), the developers created the marketplace and a new restaurant that no one had heard of... "The New Baja Grill". Anyway, i consider myself one of the very few people that has actually frequented this great establishment since day one when it opened. I remember alot of naysayers that made negative comments about the restaurant when it first started out. What I find interesting is that the latino community embraced the restaurant when other people didnt. The truth is that those of us who went there in 98´ found a real treasure and the NOW infamous TACO TUESDAY. Personally, I feel that this place is awesome and what started out as a great thing became too commercial. Im not saying that its a bad thing. Its just that the cat was let out of the bag and it has become too much of a social scene. Someone needs to give the manager Carlos credit because he runs a great establishment and coined the idea that has now brought them fame. At the same time he has never turned his back on the latino people that initally patronized the restaurant years ago. I have told him this before, they make the best carnitas!! I am loyal, always was, always have, always will be even if everyone decides that it is no longer a social scene and doesnt want to eat here anymore. Good, because i always did enjoy the peace and quiet with my nice tacos every tuesday.

Baja is the bomb!, 1/8/2005

The Primo burrito is the best tasting food I have ever eaten. I swear they put an addicting chemical in them that makes you keep coming back for more. They are also so friendly, and the manager Carlos does an excellent job of making you feel welcome.

Great tacos, fresh juice, 1/8/2005
Reviewer: John Dickson from Santa Barbara, CA
I eat here for lunch about 3 days a week. I order the same thing every visit: 3 chicken tacos (lightly seasoned grilled & diced chicken, diced raw onions, cilantro, soft corn tortillas). I usually splash a bit of Tapatio hot sauce on top. It is a perfect work-break Mexican meal because you don't feel stuffed and sleepy afterwards.

I also order their juice, usually the Aqua de Limon or the Watermelon juice. The manager makes the juice fresh that morning by chopping up a watermelon or limes, and then adding a pinch of sugar. He samples it to be sure it tastes consistently good each day. One day I arrived and they did not have the juice available. The manager, without me asking, went in the back room and made a fresh glass of juice just for me, because he knows I like it.

You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. That is really nice because it means you don't have to listen to order numbers barked over a loudspeaker throughout your meal, like they do at nearby Baja Fresh. Don´t confuse New Baja Grill with the similarly-named Baja Fresh chain of restaurants. There is nothing wrong with Baja Fresh but New Baja Grill is superior, in my opinion.

On Taco Tuesday (after 4pm) you get 2 tacos for the price of one. I heard that the most popular item at New Baja Grill is the Rosarito Burrito. Overall, the food seems very fresh and authentic. At noon the place is packed every day and they have a wonderful south-facing patio so you can eat your meal in the sun. It is located in the Camino Real Marketplace between Borders and the movie theater. If you see me there (usually reading the LA Times), come over and say hi !

My Favorite Fast and Delicious Mexican Restaurant, 12/28/2004

If you want quality, and speed, and are health conscience-- This is the place for you. Even their kids´ menu is killer. (excellently priced also) Their Rosarito Burrito (grilled peppers, onions, meat of your choice, guac, etc) is super tasty. I have taken a bite of a simple rice/cheese/bean burrito from my son, and even that was VERY tasty. The price, and the CIRCLE area outdoors is what really keeps us coming back every time we have our family with us. There are several other restaurants with good food right next door, so if you meet a group, it is easy to please everyone. This is my first choice though! Mmmmm good.

2 for 2 Tuesdays..., 2/22/2004

Most of us college students order dominos on Tuesday--2 pizzas for the price of one, what could be better? I´m starting to habituate Baja Grill instead. The Guacomole is the best in Santa Barbara, sometimes I´ll just order a side of that and take it home. On Tuesdays, tacos are two for two dollars. It is my substance :). I highly recommend it, if you go on Tuesdays eat early--around 4 or 5, it gets crowded fast.

Great shredded pork too!, 1/17/2004
Reviewer: Ed from Denver, Colorado
This is the best healthy Mexican food around! I´m from Denver and have been to Goleta for work 4 times in 2003, and I´ll eat here at least 3 times in the 5 days I´m there. The marinated shredded pork is a must in burritos or tostadas. Once you´ve eaten here, this becomes the standard to measure the rest. The salsa bar covers mild to hot, without going nuclear. I can´t say enough. For the fish taco lovers, my Goleta coworkers say this is the place too. Take in an early movie at the theater, and walk over to New Baja Grill and dine outside under the stars.

I am a burrito fanatic and out of all the burritos I´ve tried, Baja Grill makes the best ones BY FAR. nothing is close to comparing. The flavor is just amazing. I crave them practically every 3 days. Since I left school in SB I will be making special trips to Goleta just to get their burritos. The Primo and the Rosarito are the BOMB!! oh...and don´t forget chips and guacamole! Please make this small restaurant a franchise and bring one up to the Bay Area!

Decent healthy mexican food, 5/23/2003

Consistent quality control every day, decent sized portions, not heavy on the stomach or wet and drippy like some other places. A little bland if you don´t use the salsa. If you want fast service, go when its not crowded.
