Japanese food?, 6/19/2008
Reviewer: Tammie A. from Santa Barbara
I just went to this restaurant for getting to go food. As a japanese, this restaurant was the worst in terms of food, price and service. I waited an hour for only 2 rolls and a cuttlet. When I went back home and opened the box, there was this tiny pieces of rolls and meat. I can't believe I paid so much money for that much pieces of food. Honestly, I don't know what people think how much japanese food values but it doesn't worth it. Maybe because it's in Montecito.

Cleaning an issue, 2/5/2008

This place is in dire need of cleaning, even the menus were dirty. The floor is sticky, the tables were not wiped clean, and the bathrooms were disgusting. I noticed after waiting for my meal that the entire place was dirty and not well kept. I found myself wondering if I should just bolt out and not eat the food but being a world traveler and eating in Third World Countries and surviving I went ahead and ate some decent sushi.....yet I will not return due to the fact it needs to be cleaned and I did not like having to worry about becoming ill.

Food Good BUT THE PLACE IS DIRTY!!!, 8/21/2007

I had sushi here and it was good as was the service. But the place itself from the entrance & the dirt encrusted fax machine to the bathroom is VERY DIRTY! I got grossed out and have no intentions of returning. The place needs a complete make over and kept clean!

First Timer and Delicious All Around!, 4/17/2007

I have a few favorites when it comes to sushi in Santa Barbara, but each has its downfalls, mainly the waiting. It's absolute torture to go into a crowded sushi bar and have to wait up to an hour for one roll and have slow service all night long. But not at Tsunami, we were seated immediately to a comfy booth (I love booth seats!) Hot Sake was brought a few minutes after and the waitress was friendly and attentive, but not overly pushy the entire evening. We ordered 6 sushi rolls-mainly anything with crab, lobster, crawfish, yummy veggies and fried was brought our way, and each one was delicious, with various amounts of fun textures and wonderful flavors. Our appetizer, the broiled mussels was also excellent. It is topped with scallops and other goodies and broiled. I've never seen mussels prepared that way, and thought it was shredded crab at first. Either way it was gone in 5 mintues. We also had the fried pork loin which was pretty darn good, it came with a large salad, rice and classic miso soup. Maybe since it was a Monday evening they didn't have many people, but perhaps better that way in regards to quick, attentive service, and hot, fresh food. Definitely worth the price. I'm looking forward to returning, maybe hop up on the sushi bar for drinks and sushi and have good times when they are having their infamous live music! We were so full when we got home, I think we fell deep asleep in record time!

great food, not so great service, 7/12/2006

My sister and I sometimes come here for lunch but we ALWAYS have to make sure we are able to make it a LONG lunch because we've learned that if we want to eat at Tsunami, we're gonna have to wait. We're going to try to phone in our orders next time. I'd hate to give up on Tsunami because of the slow service.

Good Food, Great Tunes, 2/20/2006
Reviewer: Tammy from Santa Barbara, CA
We went about a month ago. The sushi was creative and good. But the live They had an acoustic rock duo...they were great, great classic rock tunes, fun sets! They had the place singing and dancing, although I think the staff was a little overwhelmed with the crowd they brought in. We had a great time. Go eat there, but find those two guys, anywhere in SB and go see them...they are fun!!!!

the sashimi is the best tasting in all of the sushi places ive been to in santa barbara. The fish is sooo delicious it is uncomparable to others. Service is not too good, and its a bit pricy, but its worth it for the great taste.

Three strikes, you´re out!, 3/24/2005
Reviewer: Ryan from Santa Barbara, CA
I almost give everyone more than one chance to make a first impression but, if you can´t get it right after that you either don´t care or you´re oblivious to what is going on. Thrice, the sushi was "fishy and rubbery". Thrice the waitreses were much more than incompotent. Thrice the music was too loud (and I´m 26) and thrice, there was atleast one mistake on our bill (always in thier favor). Santa Barbara is full of outstanding sushi restaurants, don´t ruin a good night out by starting here. Try "Shintori Sushi" on upper state or "Arigato" on lower state.

good food, inconsistent service, 2/15/2005

I went there on Valentine´s Day, made a pretty late reservation but they were able to seat us almost once we got there. The service is a little slow. The dinner soup and salad didn´t come for about 20 min after we ordered, our waitress forgot to bring our sashimi that was included in the dinner set and forgot to refill our drinks throughout the night. In addition, she forgot to bring our leftovers back after we had asked her to box them. That being said, she was very friendly and apologetic for her mistakes (maybe she was new on the job??). The food was very good and the portions were more than enough to feed both my girlfriend and I. I used a discount card so that may have made the overall experience more enjoyable. Nice place, semi-casual, good for small dinners, may not be that great for large parties.

so so..., 6/21/2004

The sushi tastes fine, but only eat there if you look forward to small portions and a large bill. The service is ok, but there are so many other sushi places in Santa Barbara that you shouldn´t have to settle! Try Kai or Piranha if you want REAL sushi!

Tsunami a great palce for food and music, 3/1/2004

I have been all over the world eating sushi and this was far the freshest and tatiest sushi I ever had. Plus they turn the place into a nite club on the weekends (we were there on Saturday) and saw a great jazz ensamble. Will definitely come back the next time we are in Santa Barbara for more sushi and great martini´s

food was good but the service?, 11/29/2003

It was our first time there. We´ve been almost all the Japanese restaurants in Santa Barabara. Compare to other palces, over all... sushi was great, fresh and quite quick. Miso soup was a bit salty... The service was not that good. There were several people waiting and the server greeted with smile till our turn. He ignored us for a while...maybe busy...didn´t seem like it. He even prepared a table for the party after us. And another server came to us and said she´ll check for availability, and didn´t come back for 10 minutes. Finally she returned and ignored us and was serving other people. We asked her that the table is ready or not, and she said didn´t he(Who?)tell you...tell us what? shouldn´t you be tha person? Anyway...we have no idea what was going on...maybe we´ll be the only Asian in there...we don´t know... The food was good but we´ll not go there for a while.

addicted to sushi, 5/3/2002

having been to many sushi resturants in northern california , of course when visiting our son in santa barabra we wanted to try a sushi restaurant, Tsunami is one of my son´s favorites so he took us there and we were amazed at the incredible beauty, freshness and taste of this restaurants´ sushi, there is not a norhtern california sushi house we´ve been to , that could compare, so each year we make it part of our vacation plans. This summer we plan to go two or three times!
