Great place, 1/2/2008

This restaurant had the best ravioli that I've ever had. The atmosphere is great, and I loved sitting outside. The service was wonderful, although we went at a not so busy time. The prices are reasonable. The only thing I don't love about it is that State Street can become very busy at dinner time. However, it's worth it to eat here!

Food was horrible, service was tolerable, 5/28/2007

From the outside, this looked like it would be a nice place to have dinner; unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. The food was terrible as my halibut and my wife's chicken marsala were both tasteless. The servers did their best to make the dining experience bearable, but it was impossible to overcome the lousy food. I will never be dining here again.

I should have asked for the manager, 5/7/2007

I should have asked for the manager. Had I taken the energy to discuss my problems, I may have at least given them a chance to fix things. Disclaimer #2 - I was a little hung-over and thus a little more cranky, but, it shouldn't have cost over $40 for a burger and 3 kids meals. PLease! Way too pricey. My burger, which came with an awful side salad, was tastless, a little dry, had cheese, and a dry bun (not fresh). No mayo, no onions, no ketchup, just a boring $10 burger. I was watching the people next door enjoying $3 burgers at the Habit, wishing I had just waited in that line. My side salad was wilted. They literally cooked the lettuce, under the heat lamp, before it got to me. My side salad was lettuce. That's it. C'mon people, throw me a crouton. I liked the dressing but hot, wilted lettuce. My server was OK, but the kids meals were way too expensive (for a plate of pasta) and a kids soda should not cost $2.50. I am never eating at Zelo's again.

Avoid the seafood, 5/1/2007

What a disappointment! The menu outside drew us in, but the experience once inside will have me avoiding Zelo in the future. We had drinks and a few appetizers... all disappointing. Mussels were cold and uninspired. The Ahi was on the verge of spoiling - the rare middle was about the same brown hue as the seared outer layer and it had a distinct fishy taste (tried it in the middle of conversation before I looked at it :) ). The sauted mushrooms were OK, but certainly not enough to make up for the rest. Service was slow, though they were kind enough to take the Ahi off the bill when we mentioned it was about to spoil. Overall, uninspiring when you consider all of the excellent options that are close by... don't waste your time.

We've eaten at Zelos quite a few times - mid-price and excellent in every way.

I went there for a relatives birthday recently, and each of our entrees were not tasty and mediocre at best. The scallops were cold and did not taste fresh. I could go on and on about the lack of quality the food was. The service was okay. The ambiance is nice and there was live music with a nice mellow guitarist that night which did make the evening more pleasant. I would go for drinks, but please save your money and time for dinner by going somewhere else and going to Zelos afterward for drinks.

My husband and I recently went to Santa Barbara for a day outing (we're from LA county). We decided to try Zelo's. We are so glad we did! We both had the steak with rosemary gorgonzola sauce, and the mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables that accompanied it were just as superb as the steak and sauce. My husband tried a raspberry vinaigrette with his salad, and both of us fell in love with it--the raspberry mixed with vanilla was amazing. The service was excellent, and my cantaloupe martinis were fantastic. We'll be back!

The only reason we went here is because we walked by. We knew nothing about dining in SB. Overall, Great experience. Positives: Attentive service, tasteful presentation, nice flavor profile. Negatives: Tables featured in the photo on this site were a tad too small, even for 2 people. The food was more unique than typical California style restaurants. It's a great place to go and blend-in after a day at the beach and not be part of a 'scene'. This is not an omigawd-you-have-to-go-to-Zelo type of place. You won't be disappointed. Cheers.

A friend and I attended this resturaunt for dinner and the atomoshpere was warm and fun. It was reasonable in price. The salmon with strawberry sauce was the winner for the evening.

I´ve been regularly eating at Zelo for the past 10 years or so. The Chicken Porcini and Marsala are great. They have an awesome array of salads too. The service has always been good for me (perhaps because they´ve gotten to know me) but the food is always good.

What a great place! The food was excellent and creative and the waitress and owner both were at our table precisely as we were taking the last bite of bread or sip of water or beer. The prices were so reasonable that I tipped 40% which I´ve probably never done in my life. Try the specials - they really are great.

Don´t know about the food, 6/20/2004

As far as I know, the only reason to eat here is if you´re under 21 and want to get into the dance club. It used to work!!

Never go here, they don´t want your business!, 3/11/2004

As a club this place is horrible. The bouncer "confiscated" my valid driver´s license and would not return it. He was extremely rude and condescending. They were charging a cover charge at 1 o´clock in the morning on a wednesday. They were being generally rude to customers and simply don´t want respectable business. I would never go there again and recommend that everyone find elsewhere to offer their business. ZELO´S DOESN´T DESERVE IT!

Good food, needs more vegetarian selections, 1/31/2004

The restaurant is very nicely laid out, the service is good and the prices are reasonable. However, more interesting vegetarian selections need to be added to the menu to ensure a happy dining experience for all.

Very Nice, 1/22/2004

My girlfriend and I stopped by last night and were both very impressed with the food. Presentation was very nice as well as our waitress.

Our favorite, 1/29/2003

My husband and I have been going to Zelo for over 12 years. Although the restaurant has been through changes over the years, it it still our favorite. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable.

The best restaurant by far in Santa Barbara, 3/8/2002

The food was excellent, they had a large selection of entrees to choose from. I loved their patio dining with the large fountain in the middle decorated by the fresh flowers. The service was perfect we chated a lot with our server who was from the same town as I am from. This was the first time I have dined here but I will make it a point to come again.

Horrible, 2/16/2002

This place is trying far too hard to be a classy Los Angeles type of restaraunt. They have a long way to go considering the poor ingredient quality and "club" type atmosphere.
