Tastier AND cheaper than Freebirds, 2/17/2011

I ate here frequently the first two years I was at UCSB, the food is really good, and the chicken has some awesome kinda spice on it. Yeah, the beans are kept in trays in their own juices, but that's to stop them drying out. They use a spoon with holes in it and let the juice drip out before loading up your dish, so it's not nearly as soggy as the other reviewers imply. plus you get a some free tortilla chips with your order! The "wet" burrito is amazing (a full regular burrito loaded in a tray, covered in salsa, cheese, and cilantro) and reason enough for me to keep on going back. The only reason I stopped going there was they hiked up their price by $0.50 since I started going, but I've found out if I order one of the items off the old menu that's not on the new menu I get the old price too.

Not good food or service, 9/8/2009

People here going through the motions with food in heat trays and no gloves used for the food preparation. Go elsewhere, food will go through you quicker than Taco Bell...

This place just don't care. They know they have a built-in customer base because they are located in the UCen. I went to Chilitos for the first time a couple of days ago and ordered a steak burrito without rice and beans. Sooo happy with my decision because I took a look at the tray and the beans are so soggy. The steak was also mediocre, at best.

for a captive audience, 1/18/2007

Decidedly mediocre - they'd never survive without the captive audience on campus. It's nearly impossible to get black beans wrong, for example, and yet somehow they do. A step up from nearby Wendy's and Panda Express, which is why one would eat there, yet they do not keep their posted hours, so if you're stuck on campus at 5:30 and need to stay for a lecture, don't bet on their being open, even though they claim to close at 6:00.

Best in Santa Barbara, 5/5/2005

I have tried many mexican food restaurants in Santa Barbara in the last 5 years and I think that Chilito´s is one of the best. Their chicken nachos are thto die for and their guacamole is awesome. They make everything right in front of you and listen to how you want your food made. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants really good mexican food.

Yucky food, 4/22/2005

I love most types of Mexican food, but theres is the worst. I went two or three times last year each time hoping it would get better, it did not. Thay need to learn how to drain. Everything was soggy. The burritos even if you order just beans turn out soggy. Chicken dripping in juice. Grossest food. I will walk now extra half a mile to Freebirds just to get okay Mexican. It would have been nice if I had something closer to my classes.
