When did this place close?, 3/20/2013

I called today to get a breakfast burrito... I was sad to learn this place closed... it was my favorite spot in town to get a breakfast burrito... among other things. Sad day... I wonder if they will re-open somewhere else??

Good but could be better, 6/16/2012

Went there for breakfast today. Very good food. However, they were out of coffee! What restaurant runs out of coffee?? And they are across the street from Costco. Also, on the menu the offer a choice of tortillas or toast. They have only white bread! No other kinds of bread. Otherwise very good food.

Salsa is addicting!!!, 1/11/2012

Breakfast Burritos are awesome!! made to order, I can see the lady making them.... the salsa is seriously addicting!! cant have the food without the salsa. Green salsa is my favorite but my co-workers enjoy all of them. add-ons for the burritos are a little pricy but worth every penny....

got charged for salsa.., 12/2/2011

My g/f went here one morning to pick up a couple breakfast burritos for us. When she asked for salsa she was informed that they would have to charge her.. what a joke. Who charges for salsa? She should have told them they're crazy, but she is too nice and paid for the salsa(I think 1 or 2 bucks) which should certainly be complimentary. They gave her the salsa in a styrofoam drinking cup.. Wow, thanks a lot La Carreta. We will never be back. There are too many other better choices for mexican food in SB/Goleta.

New Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Goleta, 4/7/2011

Why did it take me 6 years to discover and try this restaurant? This place is comparable to Cesar's Place on Milpas in my opinion. I love Cesar's for their catfish soup and other yummy seafood dishes. I'm so happy to know that there is mexican seafood in Goleta so close to home! My boyfriend had the seafood burrito and tried both types of fish tacos - grilled and charbroiled. Both amazing. Burrito was huge and had a light, well seasoned tomato sauce - filled with fish, shrimp, octopus plus rice & beans. Love their salsas and fresh chips. I had their fried fish served with buttery rice, refried beans, sliced avocados, and lots of grilled onions. The fish comes fried whole, head and all - my kind of style! The waitress was impressed with how I cleaned the meat off the bones. Loved the cozy decor, deep red walls, festive music and large beer selection is great - a must to pair with seafood. There are many other items on the menu I'm looking forward to trying. We'll be back! The waitress was extremely friendly and hospitable..thank you.

Ugh...just what you don't want to hear on a lunch break. Please refrain from sharing your personal phone conversations while you're working. The fact that the funds you have in your bank won't pay your bills, and you trying to remedy that LOUDLY on the phone distracts your customers from enjoying your delicious food.

Excellent lunch from someone not overly fond of Mexican food, 12/23/2010

I am not a fan of what I call "goop and glop" Mexican food and on my trips to Mexico always favored the cuisine from the colonial cities. What a pleasure to discover La Carreta where the dishes are prepared to showcase each one's distinctive ingredients. Will go back for dinner. A small, pleasant place to dine with red tablecloths and excellent service.

one of my favorite places, 12/18/2009

my wife and I eat here constantly and the shrimp quesadillas are fantastic. This locally owned restaurant is ran by a family with five adult sons and daughters (apparently relying on recipes from the family’s grandmother) continuing the tradition of phenomenal food. Always good food and great conversation. Also, just ordered my Christmas Tamales.

I've been here several times, it seems to be a good place for a casual lunch with co-workers. The exterior tricks you and makes you think it's an unexceptional hole-in-the-wall, but inside is nice tablecloths, nice tables, and silverware rather than plasticware. I've always been happy with their enchilada combinations - very generously portioned and the feel of eating someone's homecooking, not mass-produced restaurant food. Order and pickup at the counter, or they might bring it out to you if you're seated outside. Friends gush of la Carreta's seafood, but I've not yet had any to speak of it. I'd consider this a hidden gem in Goleta, and am kicking myself for not coming here earlier in my life.

Tasty food and super nice people even if a little slow, 1/13/2009
Reviewer: T.T. from Goleta, CA
I've been here four or five times now and every time I have had something tasty. Tonight I had the steak fajitas, recommended to me by the super nice server. They were fantastic, brought to the table still sizzling. I've also had some of the seafood dishes such as the ceviche tostada and the shrimp and fish tacos. The veggie burrito is good, but so far my favorite dishes have been the chicken/beef/pork dishes. I live nearby and will definitely be visiting again. Probably one of my favorite places. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but usually there is only one server so it's understandable. They may be slow, but they are always super friendly and accommodating!

Good food, quick service, 8/7/2008

I got some food to go and the food was good and came out extremely quick. More of a sitdown place though. Great Garlic flavor in the rice I think. Only issue is that they did not include the togo silverware & napkins in the bag and I had to use my own. Also no togo chips/salsa along with the meal.

My company often gets breakfast burritos for morning meetings. Everyone always LOVES them. We order a large number and the preparation time is fast. The food is always really fresh and I highly recommend them. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and the prices are great. The best breakfast burrito in town!

I have to say they have one of the best burritos with a low price. The service is good, as well as the food. Highly recommended.

Cozy little restaurant, 2/13/2007

I guess it's best to come in to sit and eat at this place rather than ordering food to-go because it took forever for my to-go food to come out. It was only two breakfast burritos and a seafood salad. Nevertheless, I give them props for the food because it was really good. I had a breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs, tomatoes and basil.

ALWAYS A GOOD TIME, 10/20/2006

Over the last 16 years I have been dining at one best mexican resturants in town, La Carreta. Chili verde is my daughter and also my favorite dish. The friendly staff always makes us feel very at home while we visit. Ninive always takes a few minutes to say HI and make sure that the food she is preparing is to our liking. Josie and Martin are great, they are sure to inform us of any new dishes that they think we may enjoy. Miros always takes time to sit and catch up on what has been going on. All in all I have to say La Carreta has grown into a wonderful eater, full of life, good food, and great times.

Don't Forget the Mole!, 8/27/2006
Reviewer: Russell from LA area, CA
A pretty good place with a decent menu. For dinner they have as much seafood variety as you'd see at a mariscos place. The lunch menu isn't as big, but it's got everything you'd expect, and then some. I walked in one day for lunch with some people from work, and the guy told us that his mom had just spent a day making mole and we should try it because they would only have it for a few more days. So we did...shredded turkey in mole with beans and rice. It was amazing. It's time for me to be getting back there soon!

La Carreta's fish tacos are awesome, the ranchero sauce they saute the fish in has an amazing rich flavor. Everytime I eat here, it makes me want to go to Mexico. The staff and cooks are super friendly. Goleta is lucky to have this place.

I visit Santa Barbara about 6 times a year and everytime I visit Santa Barbara I HAVE to go eat at LA CARRETA, as a picky eater let me tell you, they have super friendly service! and their food, WOW! although I don't have a problem having the same dish everytime I go because I love their camarones rancheros!!! I have tried different dishes and I am always a satisfied customer and so are my friends. If you are ever in town and want to eat really good food this restaurant is a MUST!

This restaurant may be small but the quality of the food and the friendly staff will keep bringing me back. It has evening specials that are creative and tasty. The presentation is on par with a gourmet restaurant. When I have company this is the restaurant I take them to for excellent seafood.
