The first time I ate here, I tried the Pozole and loved it! I've been going back at least monthly ever since. It reminds me of my grandpa's home-made pozole, and they serve it with all of the right fixings...cabbage, onions, raddish, limes, and salsa. It's perfect. I haven't ventured far into the menu, but I have tried their chorizo breakfast, which was also really good. If you're in the mood for some fair-priced, authentic mexican, this is the place to go. The service can be a little slow if you're in a rush, but its no worse than any other small business, and it's definitely worth it...and you can snack on free chips and salsa while you wait. The staff is always really nice and accomodating, too.

Very good food and service!, 1/26/2009

Its a little slow to get the food but it was well worth it for me. Probably the best meat in a chicken burrito I have ever had. More of a sitdown place but you can get it to go. They take only cash(though they show a "visa" sign in the window?). The servers are nice and knowing a little spanish will probably help your visit. Parking can be challenging on Hollister.

Go for the lunch buffet, 1/28/2005

I have to disagree with the previous two posts, although I have only gone there for their weekday lunch buffet for 6.99 and haven´t had a real "sit-down" meal there. But in my experience the lunch buffet is reason enough to go. Both times I´ve gone there have been chile rellenos made from fresh chiles, two kinds of enchiladas, crispy tacos, beans, rice, plus some "other stuff" that this gringo doesn´t know what to call -- more than enough variety, and flavors, if you´re looking for the most bang for your buffet lunch buck. There were at least a couple of fresh salsas at the salsa bar, one with big yummy chunks of avocado. Nothing looked like it came from a can or was sitting there since yesterday. I like the "fresh-mex" restaurants such as Baja Fresh as much as anyone else, but when I want a nice fix of good old Mexican comfort food (and let´s face it - it´s all about the FAT) this is the kind of place I love to find. It may not be as dazzling an array of eats as say Acapulco -- it is after a humble hole in the wall Mexican joint -- but there´s always enough of what is there, maybe since not very people seem to be eating there at lunch.

Food, service, and environment was very poor., 7/19/2004

The food was not good, it did not seem fresh. Inside it was very stuffy and uncomfortable. Service was very poor, I would not return again. Would not recommend to anyone.

Not even worth it to walk in, 1/23/2004

When I came here I thought it would be a quality Mexican joint. But I soon noticed it wasn´t all that I thought. The interior was unkempt and the service was bad. The booths were ripped, with metal springs sticking out, just about every other table had old food that hadn´t been cleaned up. The woman behind the counter was not very friendly, spoke NO english and, while I was telling her what I wanted, walked away from me and talked to the man waiting behind me. It seemed I was the first white person to ever order food here, the counterperson was staring at me kind of funny. I ordered the sopes, which were expensive to me, and when I got them I noticed the meat tasted like that of moist cat food from a can - not fresh at all. Avoid this place if you are in Goleta.
